Been getting emails from Kistler really touting this reel.  Looks spiffy enough but am curious if anyone has any experience with these.  While on this subject, anybody have any idea who actually makes these?

They literally just released them, so I doubt you'll find anyone with any hands-on experience with them. Surprised to see the 100 size and 200 size weigh the same. Could be a nice reel, but it's always hard for me to spend $250-$300 on a reel from a company that just got into the reel business. But I guess they have to start somewhere.

I have a strong feeling this is them getting into the marketing business, not the reel business ...

Oh, sure. Either way..

The same platform is used on a few other reels like the savage gear reels.  I'm pretty sure an older version of this platform is used on the zpi alcance and bass pro bionic.  Seem like solid reels.  This new one must have an aluminum main gear or something to get it down with 5.8.  I don't think the carbon handle and eva knobs alone are going to get it to 5.8 ounces.

Where you seeing 5.8 oz? On their site they list both models at 7.3 oz. I assume that has to be wrong?

Why bother? Probably nothing new to see.

The new one is 5.8.  I'm guessing this one will be the flagship of the line around the $300 price point.

They just dropped today. And they definitely have the weight listed wrong on their site then. That, or the the 5.8 oz claim was wrong? I'm guessing the website is wrong, tho.

Must be wrong on their site.  Both of the other reels on the same platform with heavier knobs and spools come in at 6.5 to 6.3.  This $300 top model is not going to weigh 7.3 oz with eva knobs, carbon handle and an aluminum spool shaft shallow ported finesse spool.

It's a SS spool shaft, and no way it'll be sub-7ozs with a brass crankshaft.

I see now.  There are 2 of these reels a 5.8 ounce bfs with the shallow ported aluminum shaft spool and a heavier deep spool one with a brass main gear.  For the non bfs reel the 7.3 ounce weight makes sense.  A chromium and chromium bfs.

Maybe not?  My link earlier had info on a 5.8 ounce reel with "whiffle shallow spool" for "spring 2023" that no longer links to that reel.  They either abandoned that one or its still in the works.

The picture on their website is a bit confusing: two different pinion gears in two pictures.  From the schematics, it seems to be the one on the left.  BTW, why stresses the POM in "POM bushing?" I wonder what material normal bushings are made of. In all,  it gives me the impression of a fancier Quantum reel.

Why not stay with known brand names, it seems like every rod company anymore is slapping their name on reels.  :headscratch:

Booo! No left hand Chromiums, as of now. I'm a sucker for a nice BFS casting reel though.
