I did something today that I've been planning to do for a long time and it was very easy.  I froze my credit with the three credit reporting agencies in the US.  I was able to do it online quickly and easily. It didn't cost anything  and I can unfreeze it if necessary.  No one should be able to check my credit now so no one (including me) should be able open new credit in my name.

Has anyone else done this?  Seems like a no brainer to me unless you're in the process of taking out a new loan.

I did it for a while when things got compromised. It is currently unfrozen but  I have been pondering whether to keep it frozen since I don’t plan on any major purchases any time soon and it can be unfrozen rather quickly.

Looking forward to seeing what those more knowledgeable on this subject have to say and share. ?

I originally had a lock on mine, back when you had to pay to do it, there were no freezes. Uncle Sam made it where we can now freeze it, which is pretty much the same as a lock, for free and change back and forth at will. It’s not often the government does something beneficial to us. So yes, I’ve had mine frozen for years, just need to remember to unfreeze it when needed.
