For me born in shakopee MN and then coming to north dakota at the age of 6 i didnt know anything other than great summers and fun frozen winters. It was great as a kid untill i got into high school and then joined the service and went to boot camp in Florida. Then my life changed from loving the nothern climate to hating it and vowing to never return. I was gone from the cold for 40 years and only returned in 2019 with my wife from the philippines to live in my house which my dad deeded over to me, he is going strong at 90 and we live with him. The only reason i will stay in fargo ND is the low crime, low taxes, wide open spaces, lots of places close by to fish in either minn or nd and my wife loves the snow and cold. Winter is a time for me to save money for the summer trips to yellowstone, mnt rushmore..... If i did move it would be to places like tennesee wher it gets cold but not months of freezing. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted January 10, 2023 Super User Posted January 10, 2023 I will fully admit that when I was a kid, I couldn't quite grasp the concept of older people leaving for the winter (snowbirds) and heading to Arizona or Florida for a few months. I thought they were all crazy. As I've gotten older, its very easy to see why they do it. And I can see myself doing it too someday if I'm able to. Not that I don't like winter here in MN, but the idea of the warm desert sun on a January day instead of 8 degrees and 3 feet of snow sounds appealing. 1 Quote

When May rolls around they’ll all be bitchin’ about the sweltering heat and humidity again. Nope and while I'm speaking strictly for me.... there are very few of my buddy's that complain about Summer. Sometime around the end of September I look forward to the cool down it usually lasts two day before I'm ready for Summer again. lol 21 hours ago, gimruis said: Don’t worry. Super User Bird Posted January 11, 2023 Super User Posted January 11, 2023 I cut wood 3 days a week until it gets warm enough to fish, plenty of exercise. Not sure I could handle extreme north. Well maybe if I didn't burn wood ? 1 Quote

Super User LrgmouthShad Posted January 14, 2023 Super User Posted January 14, 2023 The last winter I spent in NY, I got through it by listening to lots of heavy metal, lifting quite a lot, and staying busy. I was a little more aggressive during that period of time, lol. Was a relief when I could finally fish again, and I fished hard Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 14, 2023 Super User Posted January 14, 2023 Well, it's winter here with temperatures in the 40's...Too cold for me to fish on the river. February is a different story. Fishing days are selective, but it's my very best month for BIG smallmouth. Hope to be on the Tennessee River in a week or two. 3 Quote
