kickbasskid Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Hey guys well im in a bit of a bind. I have Honda Civic, no money, and no boat to use to get into the larger waters around me. However I would like to get out onto some of the larger ponds and smaller lakes. I saw this and thought PERFECT but I want opinions. http://www.amazon.com/Sevylor-Fish-Hunter-Inflatable-Boat/dp/B0015BYN1U/ref=pd_sbs_sg_2 My budget is LOW! 200 dollars is like the max. But any ideas you have would be appreciated! Also if anyone has expierience how are these things with 2 people? Quote
bassman018 Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I would not trust that thing, I would say used 12 foot jon and used trollying motor, it will be a little more but you dont need a pretty one, Because you will wind up spending 200 on that thing and then want more before long. Quote
kickbasskid Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 2005 Honda Civic.... Its not exactly made to tow a boat. Plus I have no where to put it. Quote
Go Time Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I'm with bassman, I wouldn't trust it. Seems to me like all it would take is for a fish to come loose at the side of the boat and POW the treble hooks on you crankbait are buried in the side of the boat. And there you are sinking in the middle of the lake... That said I have never attempted to fish out of one, so take my opinion for what it's worth. Quote
SimonSays Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I say save your money up for something else. I used to fish from something similar, a sea eagle inflatable and a coleman inflatable kayak. If there's any wind at all your gonna get blown around if you don't put a trolling motor on. Save for a kayak, my 2 cents. ps I drive a 03 civic coupe Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 19, 2011 Super User Posted January 19, 2011 VERY SMALL PONDS ONLY AND NOT STABLE ENOUGH FOR TWO. I had a 1500.00 inflatable , used it a few times and sold it , never felt safe or comfortable in it. Quote
Go Time Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I should have read a little more about it before passing judgement. It has 6 air chambers, so puncturing one chamber isn't going to result in you sinking. Which is good news. Although I doubt paddling that thing is going to be joyful. I'm sure someone on here will come up with a better option for you. Best of luck! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 19, 2011 Super User Posted January 19, 2011 Get a couple of cheap, used kayaks. Add some rod holders, and you're in business. Quote
bassmanET Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 If inflatable is the way you want to go, check this out. http://www.seaeagle.com/FramelessPontoonBoats.aspx Its more than $200, but it will last you longer & it looks more stable & safe! Good Luck! Tight Lines! Quote
kickbasskid Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 As much as I would love to get a kayak its a big hassle for one person. Plus I will be putting a trolling motor on this for all of you asking. Im really not looking to spend that much and the sea eagles are... that much. Other ideas on inflatables in my price range would be great! But probably needs to be tm capable. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 19, 2011 Super User Posted January 19, 2011 Good luck. Looks like way more hassle than any of my yaks.... Quote

I've owned a couple of those over the years. Quote
bassmanET Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I think what everyone is trying to say is, If $200 is all you can spend. Then don't throw it away on that inflatable boat. You'll be lucky if you get a season out of it. Save some money & buy something better. In the long run you be glad you did! I have a 11' crawdad jon boat & love it! You could strap it to the roof with a roof rack for small boats? Look on craig's list you can find them cheap. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 20, 2011 Super User Posted January 20, 2011 Hey if you dont have anything good to say... get out. Pardon me? You did ask for advice, right? Or were you just looking for validation. But any ideas you have would be appreciated! Trust me, keep your eyes peeled for a cheap kayak. Way better than an over engineered pool toy. The pontoon rig looks nice, too. Quote

To put a trolling motor on an inflatable you'd need to buy a trolling motor mount also. If you want to stand, you'll need floorboards. Not worth the hassle of putting it all together and taking it all apart. I think what everyone is trying to say is, If $200 is all you can spend. Then don't throw it away on that inflatable boat. Owasco Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 That Pontoon looks like a steal! I might just get one to keep in the trunk of my 2007 WRX! Quote
Al Wolbach Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I bought two bass hunters a few years ago for two of my sons. You will need an adapter to put a trolling motor on it, about $40 if I remember correctly. They have a rubber(plastic) bottom and are unstable except maybe sitting. I would not try fishing in one at all. I believe ours are 12' models. I spent more time repairing leaks than the boys spent playing as I remember. I suggest you find another solution to your fishing problem...........Al Quote

That's the exact model i got and it works wonders. Plus if you get the carrying bag it will easily fit in the back your WRX. Roby Quote
shimmy Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Hey guys, this was my boat for a year! I have taken it to some nasty tree filled lakes and survived. I have been stuck on trees in gotten off fine. This thing has helped land a lot of big bass for me last year. So i will give you an honest opinion and not some random judgment. Pros: -This thing is extremely quiet and can sneak up on anything! A 30 pound trolling motor can get it around any lake 500 acres and less. -Get the boot cover. This thing has saved my life many times. -i have had the 360 fish hunter and have had 4 people fishing in it. -takes a total of 20 minutes to inflate, put boot on, place floor boards inside, electric motor on, and on the water fishing. -you can drop this sucker in ANYTHING. Any pond or lake. -this whole setup fits inside my small nissan sentra and i have save hundreds, if not over a thousand dollars just on gas by using this instead of towing my aluminum boat. -you can get into any pond, and unload everything by yourself. -more stable than a Yak CONS: -a 5mph gust of wind will send you flying so learn how to use an anchor at all times. -the drain valves are a weak point for the raft on the bottom. Very thin material and through the year, i had a hole near two of the valves. However, since it isn't the main ones, i still put the floor boards down and fished perfectly safe. I usually stood anyways on the board. -you will be afraid of the thing getting a hole! You will be paranoid. But, i have never had a hole in the main compartment and i have gotten stuck on some nasty things. The main thing is, this is the best boat for getting into waters that many people can't get in. If you have a jon boat and can afford to fish the waters and can get into them with it, then this boat isn't necessary. But, if you can't afford the whole jon boat setup and have difficult time with transportation, this is the boat. This boat kept me fishing all year and i am a pretty rough angler. It will be hard to find another setup this cheap and effective. Just my ten cents. Oh, and i only did bass fishing from this. Quote

The fish hunter I bought did not come with the boot(Cover), floor nor the trolling motor or trolling motor bracket. These were add-ons that would total quite a bit in addition to the boat itself but would be necessary to bass fish. To purchase this boat new with all the additions that are necessary would be several hundred dollars and it comes with a short lifespan. It would seem to me money better spent on a used jon boat that you can pick up for about the same money. However everyone is in a different situation and these can be made to work as Shimmy described above. Do what you must to fish................Al Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Also if you do get one check your state boating regulations for need to register the boat. I'm in IL and must register my inflatable and I have been checked by DNR guys. Quote
