I'm trying to decide between the Conquest 783C and the 843C. I'd like this rod to be the most versatile rod in my arsenal, so my thought is to go with the shorter 6'6" rod as it is better for spinnerbaits and I'll be fishing around Lake LBJ the most, so I'll be fishing docks quit a bit too.  Ultimately, I'll have a short spinner bait specific rod and a 7' or 7'1 MH jigging/worm rod.

This particular purchase is for a versatile rod and I think I like the length for spinnerbaits as well. I appreciate any thoughts in advance.

I would go with 843C all day long. I like 7' plus rods for longer casts and I don't think this will affect your dock fishing. If you want versatility this rod is what you are looking for.

I bought a 783. Great rod.

Then I bought an 843. Great rod.

Then I bought an 844. Great rod.

I love them all and use them every trip for everything from spinnerbaits - my favorite - to chatterbaits, crankbaits, jigs and worms. I have other rods, but enjoy the Conquests.

I would suggest buying the 843, it's only 6 inches longer than a 783. A dollar bill is 6.125"

I have a 783 and a 843 and I definitely prefer the extra length of the 843.  All of my rods length preferences have increased over the years and a 7' is the shortest I use on a regular basis.  Plus, if you ever go to sell the rod it'll be more difficult if it is the 783.  Good luck with your decision.

Thanks y'all. This is exactly what I was looking for. I was leaning to the shorter rod, but now am going for the 7 footer. Normally, I don't think too much about resale, but these aren't 150 dollar rods.

Every trip out I have two 843c and one or two 844c MBR rods.

I do like my 783c MBR for close cover fishing spinnerbaits, and jerkbaits though.

I'd go 843 all day.

Sure they are, they just charge a lot more for them.  :)

Speaking of charging a lot, I just shopped for a pound of jumbo lump crab meat - blue crabs, Chesapeake Bay crabs.   $83.99/pound. I thought paying $47/pound last summer was expensive.

I have the 783C and Two 844’s, they are all amazing rods but that 783c always finds a way into my hands. It’s a dock skipping machine. It’s also just great at about everything under a 1/2 ounce. Put a light reel on the 783c and it’s like a toy from a weight standpoint

I personally wouldn't spend the extra $ on a conquest over a NRX but I'll also say the 843.
