krisjack69 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 I finally tried the Basix fluro I got while back in the 10 lbs test. Well, it didn't do so well in the wind on spinning gear. It would try to wrap around the reel and when I was getting it out the line was frayed so had to redo it. It hates spinning gear but that's normal for any fluro doesn't have much abrasion resistance so if you fish around rock or wood this isn't the line for you. I got stuck in some I guess coontail (it's pictured in video so let me know what that is) that's dead but got my lure back also got stuck in a tree and got it back so not bad. It's not that bad of a line. Thus far I like it. We shall see how it lasts. I caught two small fish with them and got a few bites. Was using a Googan rattlin Ned then changed over to the baby rage on the SK ned rig jighead. I don't like that metal wire keeper so I bent it down so it wouldn't stick out of the bait as much. Rips too much plastic with it. Then I used the lunker log and got one of the bass on it. The reel used was an older Stradic and a new Piscifun reel carbon x 2000 reel. Had more issues with the smaller piscifun reel I guess due to it's smaller spool than my Stradic 3000FI. Rods was a 7 foot medium F Smoke rod older version with the piscifun reel. The stradic I had it on a Duckett micro magic 7ft MH rod. Still getting used to learning how to fish a ned rig as I'm new to it. They seemed to hit it when it was being still dead sticking. Anyways have a good one! 2 Quote
Eric 26 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 I purchased the same lb test and spooled it on a Tatula 80 baitcaster. Although I didn’t get to use it as much as I would have liked I found it behaved extremely well even on the smaller spool in this reel. I like it enough that I’m planning on spooling it onto at least 1 more reel and will probably buy it again especially since I tend to try and find gear that’s budget/bang for the buck. Also I have a Piscifun Carbon X 2000 but I’m using 10 lb suffix advance mono and haven’t had any issues so far. 1 Quote
krisjack69 Posted January 6, 2023 Author Posted January 6, 2023 Ok great to hear. Hopefully, the tackle warehouse reviews are wrong with the line breaking in the spool after a while. Wonder if they stored their stuff in the open daylight too ? Quote
Super User islandbass Posted January 6, 2023 Super User Posted January 6, 2023 Thanks for the report! Quick question though. As an fc line, would you say it is more on “wirey” side or “limp” (akin to 6# invizx I used to use) side as far as fc line goes? 1 Quote

At first it seemed to be a bit wirey but once it got wet it seemed to get a bit limp to me. It was new line that was just put on it so it begins to be little springy in the beginning will know more as I use it more. Sensitivity was pretty good too. I am used to FC sniper and it seem to be close to it, I have used Invizx too but its been awhile. I found FC Sniper and never changed until I saw this one coming out. Found out about it by a Tyler Berg vid lol. The line though does jump off the spool quickly so gotta watch out for it to keep going especially when it is windy like it was today. Anyway I hope that helps. 1 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted January 6, 2023 Super User Posted January 6, 2023 @krisjack69: Thanks! I myself haven’t used invizx for quite some time and as much as I love their 6# line (mostly for drops shot), it doesn’t hurt to try other lines. ? 1 Quote
drakesndrum Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Have Basix in 20lb on my chatterbait rod and like it fine. I also use the 10 and 12lb for leaders on my spinning outfits and have zero complaints so far. Its very good for the price! 2 1 Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 6, 2023 Super User Posted January 6, 2023 Tried it last season on baitcasters. Pleasantly surprised by it. Definitely better than red label. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 6, 2023 Super User Posted January 6, 2023 I put some on my spinnerbait rod this past year. Little more wiry than InvizX, but to be expected as it's a bit larger diameter for the same #-test. Took knots well, I didn't have the breakage reported on TW...for an entry level FC it's pretty good. Like all FCs - KVD was used, so may have contributed to my good luck with the line. 1 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted January 6, 2023 Super User Posted January 6, 2023 10lb on a 2000 size spinning reel would probably cause issues with most lines. I would step down to 6lb. Also, Basix is slightly thicker than some other FC. For example, 12lb in Invizx is .011in which is the same as 10lb Basix. 1 1 Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 6, 2023 Super User Posted January 6, 2023 I wouldn't use any fluoro on a spinner. Just my opinion. On a baitcaster it casts wonderful. It is slightly wirey but it's flourocarbon. I thought it cast better than invisx. I don't use any line conditioners. For the money it's probably the best flouro out there. Notice I did not say it's the best I put a condition on it. Try some. And if you do backlash it to death it doesn't cost $45 to respool. It's like the Big Game of flourocarbon. 2 Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 If you guys are a fan of cheap fluorocarbon, give Yo-Zuri Topknot Mainline a try. I've had zero issues with it and have caught tons of fish with it over the past two years. You can get it for 10 bucks a spool at Academy. 4 Quote

Wish we had an Academy store here the closest one is like an hour and a half drive and they are usually out of the items I want online. It is why I had to order my rod online from Walmart since they did not have the 7 foot 2 inch rod I wanted, It is labeled for jigs and swimming jigs. I will use it for that and texas rigs. Should be a good all purpose rod, Probably throw chatterbaits with it too.. Quote

I'm giving not only that, but their braid a test run next season. I'm already a Hybrid acolyte. Quote

I needed line on two reels so to save money I put it on both the 3000 and 2000 reels. It was a good test run. Only one time out on the water with will see how it goes in time. Will try that 6 lbs and see how it does. Will get it too in higher test for my two Abu Premiers to see how it does with the higher poundage. Just was being cautious. It was windy start but fared better once the wind died down at dusk. Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 9, 2023 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 9, 2023 For the past year, I've been using 8lb BasiX on spinning gear and have been happy with it. It has a little more memory than InvizX, but not by much. Otherwise it's comparable to InvizX. 1 Quote

Recently took a know it all FC guru out crappie fishing and he showed up with three spinning rigs with 4, 6, and 8# FC. Needless to say my cheap braid and Mr crappie 8# landed 20 before he gave up and borrowed one of my spare crappie rods. As for the basix, I got a spool of it in my stocking but I'm too used to sunline to bother trying it. I broke off a bunch of fish and lures years ago with seaguar so I tend to avoid it. Quote
