1st. Super impressed a few of you got my “dunked my reel in…” thread locked down!  Hahaha.  Well done!

anyways as a result of that thread I erred on the side of caution and sent my reel in.  The guy promised to call me before he puts it back together. He asked me to think about ceramic bearings.  +$ a few bucks.  He said they make a tiny bit of noise, but are smooth as butter.   Adds casting distance.

thoughts?

Aiming corrosion resistance and pitching, it would be a good update.

Aiming long distance casting gains, no. No advantage at all.

Clean bearings matter more than the material IME. I didn't notice much difference when I put ceramic hybrids in one of my super duty's, other than the ceramics are noisy when dry. I won't be buying more.

Noise is the reason I got my ceramic bearings cheap.  However, I actually like the noise.  Gives me an idea of spool speed, and when to thumb.

I forgot to mention as buldog1935 pointed out that I find I can run less braking on a reel that has been tuned and upgraded.

I think the spool not only starts up easier is slows more gradually which makes them actually easier to control. The fear of better freespool making a reel some unruly monster is irrational.

I'm an automotive technician, so by nature I tinker with stuff.  This thread has gotten me to thinking.  If I were going to try ceramic bearings in one of my reels which one should I put them in?

Shimano SLX 150 DC, Shimano SLX MGL 70,  Daiwa Zillion SV TW, Daiwa Alphas SV TW, or Lews LFS.  I've got a couple other Daiwa's but I hate the location of the brake adjuster so I wouldn't consider an "upgrade" for them.

I upgraded most of my reals to abec7, didn’t go ceramic, didn’t like the noise. I’ve found that the upgrade gave me more consistency in my casting and was easier to cast.
Didn’t cast that much further just easier to cast the same distance.
Plus it just feels different….. quieter, smoother, and more solid, can’t explain it….just different.
