A friend just gave me this for Christmas, it's the coolest gift I've received in a long time.   I wanted to share it with you folks and perhaps some of you have some vintage lures you want to share.

I will treasure this old lure for the rest of my days, I wish it could tell its story and the fish it might have caught :)

Sweet gift!!!  My Michigan place/lake is close to south bend, so my little google search says your's with the glass eyes might be from the 30's.  Could make it more rare.

Thanks, I found a great site with lots of info on them last night as well.

Seems it was quite the successful lure over the decades.

There is a guy who buys a bunch of our donated old lures and makes things like that. There is also another guy that buys our beat up old rods and makes fly swatters out of them.

Are you tempted to try it out?

LOL.....I truly am if it wasn't such a special gift.

How cool would that be to catch a Bass on a lure made 80-100yrs ago ?

@AlabamaSpothunter earlier tonight I was going through my fishing stuff and came upon this lure from my Grandfather and although I will never throw/use the lure it made me think of your Christmas gift which then made me think of a thread on here that I cannot find but I’m certain was titled “so you guys like the old stuff” ?.  Maybe  I have the thread title wrong but it was an awesome thread nonetheless with many participants including @bulldog1935 who may be able to jog my memory in terms of finding said thread. @Eric 26 easy for me to find this from my profile (Content I Started) - it was the 1st thread I OP'd on BR.  Even quicker to find it, search Meek or Talbot

My sister and BIL have an upscale lake house (with a boat house) and he's one of those impossible to pick a gift.  A couple of years in a row, I've given him handmade wood plugs from Japan for a collection in his lake house curio, and they've been well received.

NFLCC is the antique lure collector's club, and Joe Yate's forum is their online trading site.  There's some major speculating on the truly old stuff.  About a decade ago, the empty wooden box for a Civil War era plug sold in auction for $12,000.

I have a similar lure except for the eyes and missing hook hanger but it is not in great condition.

Holy cow that's some serious money.   Those are some seriously cool plugs, what a gift.   Thanks for the link to the thread!

Awesome, appears to be the same model as mine.  Bet it would still catch a fish ?

I purchased a small box of old plugs at a fishing flea market years ago. This one was in the box. I keep saying I should try them but I haven't. I agree I think they will still catch fish.

I just read this. Very interesting. It looks like the one I have was the last version made after 1966. Definitely more fishable than collectible. ?
