I just noted where you fish.  I also have a goal to try different launch points to put my kayak into Clearlake.  I am almost married to State Park and Braitos at this point.  I WILL launch at Red bud this year.   same goes for Berryessa.  I am gonna venture more.

?

Every year I say I’m going to fish Clear Lake and Berry more. I’m so close to the Delta I’ll admit I’m spoiled. The bridge tolls towing the boat, fuel costs, quagga and launch fees keeps me from fishing up north more. But here we’re are at the start of another year and more opportunities to go fish…

More time on the water... Be more positive in mind and enjoy each moment with my kids.

you live close to the Delta?!  I like the Delta better than both those lakes.  but I am just starting.

I love exploring launch sites.  love it.

In 2023, I'm a Rookie in the MLF Phoenix Series and my goal is to qualify for the Regionals. And speaking of that, my jersey came in today. My hotel logo is on there for sponsoring me for a few tournaments, some contingency logos, and as a trade for some bait companies contributing to my Fishing with the GM kids program at the hotel I have those logos on my jersey as well.

I'm considering expanding the Fishing with the GM program to local residents instead of just hotel guests starting with one event during the summer. I need to think it out a bit more and narrow down a local charity to pair this with.

In 2022 work was just too busy and we were too short staffed to grow the program we established in 2021.

Just to get out a bit more often, even if it’s only for an hour or two every now and again. There were lots of times last year when I could’ve popped the boat in the lake for an evening fish, but just didn’t get around to it. This year, my major house, and outside yard projects are pretty much caught up, so I’m just gonna get my butt out there more instead of working around the house so much.

Same. Went 31 times last season but missed a few times because I was moving in May.

My now deceased Grandfather always said “if you don’t have your health, you don’t have much” before he died of cancer in 2012.

Basically just prioritize fishing more.

- Fish more (prioritize the time)

- Organize tackle and expand in a few areas where it might be lacking.

- Fish a new body of water

- Catch more fish than last year (shouldn’t be hard)

- Take wife and friends out more.

- Improve confidence in more techniques/lures/etc.

We are going to Belize for our honeymoon (1.5 years late ?) and we booked a guided trip there so that’ll be fun. First time Salt Water fishing since I was like 10.

Hopefully I get a full summer of fishing and not lose time due to sickness or major engine repairs like the last 2 summers.  I lost the majority of last summer due to motor issues which sapped my enthusiasm and cancelled my major fishing plans for the year.  Anyways, here is what I have for this season.

1)  Explore Northern Michigan more.  I have 2 long trips planned for next year and I want to fish a few new lakes.  Grand Traverse Bay was a major disappointment last June so I want to branch out and investigate a couple new bodies of water.

2)  Dial in Livescope for deep water fishing.  This was my major goal for last summer which was ruined by my motor issues.  I am hoping to become proficient fishing for smallies in 25'+ of water mid summer.

3)  Work on several new techniques- hairjigs (I need to bump up the weight so I can cast these better), free rigs (I've done okay with this but I need to get a better handle on it), and hover strolling and Daiki Rig fishing.  I rediscovered Neko rigs last year especially for deeper water fish so I am hoping to add this rig to my core fishing techniques.

4)  Fish new water locally.  For Christmas, I received a seasonal boat launch pass at a Lake Michigan marina and it will be an absolute gamechanger for me.  The launch fee on Lake Michigan is anywhere from $20 to $36 and it really adds up.    But with the seasonal pass I will go more often, launch with questionable winds,  and explore different water since I won't feel the need to justify an expensive outing by fishing high percentage areas exclusively.

5)  Become better with jerkbaits

i just realized a goal!!!  i am trying to get better SOLO.  i am a kayaker, so fishing solo is just one of the characteristics.

i am gonna quit worrying about my friends needs.  i'm gonna tell them my plans, if they want to do something different..i will wish them luck, and say we reconvene later to talk story.

My fishing goals for 2023 will be to get out on the water as much as possible which is the same every year, but this year I know will be harder given that I have a DIY home addition that I'll have to set aside time to work on.

My other fishing goals are as follows in no particular order:

Finish in the money in all club tournaments

Finish in 1st for season points

Qualify for the Wisconsin Bass Nation State Team (I've been sooo close multiple times but I want to get over the hump this year)

Continue to improve my offshore game

Get better with Active Target

Catch a new PB Smallie

Same as every year... fish more!

Didn't go a whole lot last year, but make a couple of few trips count when I did including a Bass fishing trip for 4 hour straight, two drift top water bite and a Tuna trip that saw a buddy of mine land a 150 lber ("small" fish for the boat was 80 lbs.)

I'm going to add one more item - fish with more soft plastics, specifically creature baits. I throw Senkos and Ned rigs, and I use creature baits as trailers. But I think I'm missing out by not dragging and bouncing more soft plastics along the bottom.

I'm going to pick out a few days where that is all I load up on my kayak.

Every year I set some goals, fishing and otherwise. Lately everything is stressing me out and I feel like I don't have time to think about much of it.

Fishing related, I had a very good year last year with finesse fishing, usually the drop shot. I found the points where the fish congregated and several times either myself or one of my kids fishing the other side of the point pulled in a bass and had every boater in the area admiring it saying that must be a 6+ pounder (didn't get any over 5 last year, but plenty of 4s). So this year I want to continue down that path somehow.

I also did quite well at one of the most beautiful but most difficult lakes I have ever fished. I always like returning to that spot simply because of the amazing scenery surrounding the water (plus the fact that I know there are big fish in there, several state records came from that lake). We never got skunked and landed a few nice ones and had one giant smally that followed my jig to the kayak but I couldn't have got it to bite and lost another large one and ultimately hooked a fallen tree (and lost my jig). So I plan on going back there again this year and using what I know.

My goal is to re-visit some places that I have not been to for a long while. I've gotten in a rut just fishing the nearby river and the state park lake which are less than ten minute drives. The others are in the range of an hour's drive. Of course, that's what I said last year and didn't.
