Let me start by wishing everyone a safe, happy, healthy and prosperous 2023.  If you're going to be drinking tonight please don't drive.  If you're on the roads, be careful.  I suspect there will be some impaired drivers out tonight.

What are your fishing goals for 2023?

I don't fish tournaments so no goals there.   I just enjoy fishing.  I want to continue to enjoy catching a few bass.  Possibly learn some new stuff, and maybe even help some others.   I don't have the fishing knowledge of others here but I'm still a nice guy.   Last year (at different times) I towed 3 broken down boats back the landing.  I saw a dog fall out of a pontoon, got it out of the lake and chased down it's humans, before they even know it had fell out.   I jumped off several boats on the lake and also a few tow vehicles at the landing.

Other goals, resolutions?   I have the same New Years Resolution I've had for decades.  So far I've been keeping it.  It's to not die.   LOL

Fishing goals? Same as always I reckon, just to enjoy my time on the water, continue improving, and catch more BIG fish. BIG is a relative term, based on geographical location.

Fishing goal: get better at structure fishing and fishing timber. I believe structure fishing was my goal last year too.

Lure want to focus on next year: jig. I think last year it was Texas rig and I definitely fulfilled that this year. Fished it a lot.

Activity of focus for next year: reading more. Want to start simple. Maybe a book every two months.

General goal: Want to be able to clearly articulate my principles and philosophy on life and leadership. And review these often

My main goal will be getting a new PB smallmouth. This past July I lost boat-side what would most definitely been my PB. So I’m gunnin’ for her next year.

Like every year, a new domestic PB largemouth is a goal as well. Currently stands at 6-3, and next year I’m trying for one over 7. A 7lb largemouth is a fish of a lifetime in my waters, and I know of a few lakes that hold 7lbers and bigger.

I like to add at least one bait or presentation to my list of “confidence baits”. This coming year I’ll be focusing on cranking. I’ve sort of got away from it the last decade or so, mainly because the lakes I fish are often not suited to submersible treble hook baits. But I fished a lot of new water this year that should be suited for cranking, got a couple new cranking-dedicated set ups, and am ready to start slaying them on a crankbait like I used to.

As always, I just want to become a better, more knowledgeable and well-rounded bass angler each year. It always amazes me how much I learn each year without realizing it until reflecting on the past season. This year was no exception. Time in the water is truly the most valuable tool for an angler, and I was able to get out a good amount this year.

At lastly, this is sort of a fun, non serious goal. That is to continue my streak of at least 6 years of not being skunked (that is a caught at least one bass every single time I went bass fishing). I don’t fish just to keep this goal alive, because that’s no way to fish in my opinion, but it is a fun thing to think about.

I would like to learn a new different section of my river better. This will be level dependent.

I would like to learn a lake as well.

I want to help whoever fishes in my boat with me to catch more fish. I am not a wealth of knowledge. Even if I am catching fish and they aren’t I don’t really tell them what I’m doing. I do not like to sound cocky, bossy or a know it all and tell people how they should be fishing. So I just let them do their thing. I want to find that happy medium of a helping hand.

I want to get better at summertime fishing. It seems to be the hardest for me.

I would like to learn the drop shot.

As far as my goals outside of fishing I want to stay level headed. I want to continue my weight loss. There is a few things yet I want to train/help my rescue dog overcome. He has coming a very long way in the 7 months my wife and I have had him.

tight lines and stay safe in 2023 everyone!

What are your fishing goals for 2023?

With more calendar pages behind me than there probably are in front of me,

there's quite a bit that needs to keep happening in order to be fishing in 2023 at all.

Especially considering the average length of the hard water season here.

Sitting on my duff for 5 months and then expecting to be on my feet for days on a rocking & rolling boat, making way too many cast, without at least some preparation, seems less than ideal.

So staying healthy & active tops the list.

A clean diet, regular exercise and ensuring I am getting sufficient sleep

are all 'goals' that on the surface may not appear like they are fishing related but

for those of us at this end of the road & beyond, we know the deal.

Challenging myself mentally and keeping a positive attitude runs a close second.

With all that in my hip pocket, I want to be on the water as much as I can.

And when I do, I want to fish hard.

Which can mean a few different things but perhaps most importantly

means being & staying present.

I am actually going to make a goal of 'slowing down' while on the water.

That goes for everything, from my thought processes

all the way down to & including my presentations.

So quality over quantity then.

Stay Safe

A-Jay

Fishing goals: spend more time catfishing and panfishing- especially early and late in the season.

Overall goal: same as last year- eat healthier/cleaner and work out more. Almost exactly a year ago to the day I started that journey...found some success and some failure. To date I've managed to keep almost 20lbs off and my lower back is in better shape than it was a year ago. May not sound like much but I'm proud of it. Now I'm just gonna keep on this path.

First goal is to kick the Bait Monkey out of the house, and become more skilled with the baits I already have.

Second goal is to catch a new PB.  The pursuit of the second goal, will l make the first goal very difficult.  It is much easier to buy a new lure thinking it will be the magic bait that will catch a giant bass, than it is to take the time and effort to learn to fish what I already have more effectively. ( especially jigs)  After years of looking for the magic lure, I am positive I will never find a magic bullet. Even though I am aware of this fact, the force of the Monkey is strong.

Third goal is take more pictures.  This is a goal I set every year, and as the years go by I wish I had done a better job of achieving this goal.

My own goal is to continue to remain healthy, keep my weight in check, and continue with a sit up/ pull up workout I've started doing each day.                                             For fishing, much of the same. Throw some crankbaits early, which I've gotten away from, and improve  my catch rate of numbers and size of bass.               The remain healthy part is #1 on my list.

Start walking a little more for exercise. As far as fishing goes, maybe go a little more often but mainly just have fun. I did get an Onyx 24 a/m clear view for Christmas so I plan on wearing it while on the water.

Agree with this 100%. Doesn't really matter what your catching, pretty hard to enjoy it if you feel like crap.

my goal is causing me anxiety.  hahah..

I plan on slipping my kayak into the Pacific Ocean.  I want to catch rockfish badly.  I have an irrational fear of sharks.  but only when I am in the ocean.  :D

Walk more, stop eating at night, have another 10 lbs to lose but have hit a wall.

fishing… stop backlashing, at least the ones that don’t come out.

I’m not setting the bar high and keeping it simple in 2023.

Non fishing: I’m going to try and slow life down especially when it comes to work.

Fishing: Get out and fish. I didn’t launch the boat once this year.

The past couple years I’ve replied to threads like this and set goals and I’ve pretty much failed at all those goals. I’m not afraid to fail one bit because even with failure you learn and I’ve learned, maybe not as much as I would’ve liked to, but that’s something I think I’ll always battle with. I’m doing a hard reset in ‘23 and only setting one goal fishing related and that’s to simply fish.

First fishing goal is to fish different water that is farther from home.  This year the high gas prices forced me to fish in some of the local ponds and the conservation site that is near my house.

Second fishing goal is to do more UL panfishing.  The crappie around my area have been fished out for the most part, but there are some big redear and bluegill in some of these ponds.

Personal goal is to exercise more and not let work stress me out.

My goal for the new year is to spend the same amount of time on the water bass fishing, if not a little more and include a few trips for other species. I look forward to reflecting back at the end of 2023 and see what adjustments might be needed in 2024 to improve my fishing overall.

I just noted where you fish.  I also have a goal to try different launch points to put my kayak into Clearlake.  I am almost married to State Park and Braitos at this point.  I WILL launch at Red bud this year.   same goes for Berryessa.  I am gonna venture more.

Cut down doing stupid things to once a week, rather than daily.

Use the lures in my boat that I normally don't tie on. That will help clean out and lighten my boat by the end of the season. The oldies were successful before, just replaced by younger, sexier lures.

Sometimes the simplest things in life are the hardest ones to do right. I kinda did the same thing this past year...along with taking better care of myself physically I did what you referred to as a hard reset. I worked less hours than I have in almost 10 years and you know what? I made plenty of money and didn't starve. Oh and I fished more than I have in the past 4 or 5 years and in general was just happier overall. Plan to continue those going forward.
