The airing of the episode is tomorrow - from MLF's site

"The first season of Major League Fishing’s General Tire Team Series is set to premiere this Saturday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. ET, with a two-hour episode on Outdoor Channel – Match No. 1 of the Lucas Oil Qualifier Presented by B&W Trailer Hitches. The event was filmed this fall in Alexandria, Minnesota."

Then why the heck is MLF pushing this so hard on social media?

Seems sketchy that they promote it as the premier event when it actually took place months ago,

Tell that to the hundreds of ice anglers out there. They are already borderline nuts for being present on a frozen lake.

Dude, I've been seeing open and tent anglers on the smaller lakes of the Minnetonka chain since mid-month.

Yesterday, I saw that someone already has a perm-shelter up on Cooks Bay.

I'd say more than just 'borderline'...these people are frickin' insane.

I’d like to say I’m surprised by this behavior but we’ve both seen it for so long by this demographic that it’s just expected every winter now. Really the only limiting factor anymore is the weather and sloppy ice conditions out there.

And the idiocy increases.

Just came back from a quick errand - and people are actually driving their cars out onto Black Lake.

Just waiting for the first one to drop through at this point...

Lots of permanents up on this side of the lake.  Most of the lake is barren outside of where the ice is generally thickest.  I don't ice fish, but I am an avid snowmobiler and to get to the trails I have to pass them all.

Have you not followed MLF for a while? The head scratchers and not infrequent

I would assume it’s a heck of a lot cheaper to air something taped then live. I would think there’s less moving parts etc. for years I used to watch motocross and supercross events days after it really happened. Now most of that airs live.

I don't think so. You have the same camera and crew no matter what. But with a taped show there is tons of editing to be done before the broadcast, adding costs.

I'm not a fan of the tape delay, especially when it's been months and they are promoting it like it's a live event.

I remember when I was young and ABC would tape delay the Indy 500. I would make sure to stay clear of radio and TV all day until it aired.

The bassmaster classic, biggest tournament in history, was aired weeks/months after it occurred until recently

MLF has always had a ‘made for TV’ component - it’s part of their business plan. It is geared more toward the entertainment side of things, casting as wide a net as possible to bring new eyeballs to the sport. That part isn’t directly geared toward the hardcore bass guy or the traditional live sporting event. Think of it in the same vein as any movie or weekly television series you watch, most all of which are filmed months if not a year or more in advance, and then edited before airing or release. Same principle.

Once again Wheeler shows us why 70% of the MLF anglers voted to go to the five fish format.

It is amazing how some people just can get fish to eat.

Wheelers versatility and ability to quickly establish patterns sets him apart. The guy is good at everything.

Watched the Team Series this weekend and enjoyed it.

3 teams with 3 anglers on each team. 9 boats each team in communication with each team member.

Wheeler was on the winning team but didn’t come close to having the most individual weight.

Don’t know what you all are whining about?

I really enjoy the made for TV events.  I realize they are not live and that is fine with me. I think one of the things these events do is let people get a glimpse of the anglers personality.  This is one thing MLF did right.  The MLF cup events made me an Andy Montgomery fan. That is why I like when ZONA has guys on his show.   I like knowing the guys.  I have zero interest in watching a bunch of anglers I don't know anything about.  To me that is like watching a local tournament.  Personalities make sports.
