Super User roadwarrior Posted December 29, 2022 Super User Posted December 29, 2022 Top Gun: Maverick | NEW Official Trailer (2022 Movie) - Tom Cruise - Bing video I prefer the big screen, but I like it on the small screen, too! 6 Quote
padlin Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 To me it was okay but too much copied from the first. As it pulled in 1.5 billion, I must be in the minority. 1 Quote

Fishlegs Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Our whole family enjoyed Top Gun. That's unusual. Haven't seen the new Avatar yet. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 29, 2022 Super User Posted December 29, 2022 Haven't seen Top Gun, but we saw Avatar earlier in the week. Visually it was great, but the story was so-so. Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted December 29, 2022 Super User Posted December 29, 2022 I watched it as soon as it came out on Paramount +. I’m not a big TC fan but the movie was good. Quote

I liked Strange New Worlds as well. I actually started watching Star Trek Discovery after I watch SNW and I had to turn it off sometime in season 3 (or whatever the season was when Pike was done). It was just terrible in so many ways. And all I kept thinking was, "This is Star Trek. Why is there so much crying in every episode." As for Top Gun: Maverick, I watched it last night on Paramount+. It was pretty good, and definitely an homage to the original, even in its cinematography. 3 Quote

I don't understand? Having grown up on the original (started watching in 1966 - first airing of 'Balance of Terror'), SNW feels like Trek...great homage to the original. 4 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted December 30, 2022 Super User Posted December 30, 2022 Took the whole family to watch it this summer at a nearby lakeside amphitheater in the mountains... combination of the movie and outdoor setting was fantastic. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted December 30, 2022 Global Moderator Posted December 30, 2022 I rented it on Amazon over a month ago and have watched it twice on Paramount+ since it came out last week. It’s a great movie! I can’t get enough of fighter jets, they’re one bada$$ machine! I might watch it one more time then dump Paramount+, there’s nothing else on it that interests me. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted December 30, 2022 Super User Posted December 30, 2022 I'm planning to watch it on paramount+ tomorrow after work. I've heard really good things. Quote
Masaccio Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 I joined Paramount+ just to watch Maverick. I might try it again but it seemed to lack soul. Also disliked the special effects. Plastic all around for me. (The original was great. You can’t “go back.”). Also wanted to watch original Yellowstone but it’s not on P+ anymore. I canceled. Then joined Peacock for Yellowstone and hated that too. Cancelled Peacock. Not a good TV day for me. Then rented Sister Act on Amazon. Went to bed happy. Quote

Super User Deleted account Posted December 30, 2022 Super User Posted December 30, 2022 Haven't seen it yet, but I was at the NEX last evening, and $400 for a 75" 4K Samsung was too good to pass up, so the 60" will go in the bedroom, and will be screening TOP GUN II on the new one, I might even hook up the entire 200 watt 7.1 and rewatching some Thor as well, (unless the ice thaws, then it's pickerel)... Super User Darren. Posted December 30, 2022 Super User Posted December 30, 2022 Loved Top Gun: Maverick. Such a great film, haven't seen Avatar yet, but we plan to. I'm a SciFi junkie - Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was excellent, can't wait for the next season. I actually enjoyed Picard 1 & 2, so looking forward to 3. Discovery is fun, IMO. Stargate SG:1, Atlantis I can watch over and over again. Not happy Amazon Prime is dumping them for yet another subscription svc., apparently. The Expanse was phenomenal. Quote

Masaccio Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 I'm thinking if I watch the first episode enough times, I'll find some reason to start #2. We're getting a period of mild weather for January. I can watch this and fine-tune a fishing trip for next week at the same time. Quote
Masaccio Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Actually, after the ridiculous horse-back fishing scene, and then the fireside gathering where they're all eating their fresh catch out of Reynolds Wrap (who brought that, I wonder), I'm done. A very decent western, on Netflix, is Longmire. It slays Yellowstone, no sweat. Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted December 31, 2022 Super User Posted December 31, 2022 The family and I enjoyed Top Gun:Maverick which tied in well with the original. I found it pretty interesting Tom Cruises P-51 was sprinkled into the movie, with him at the controls flying it at the end. A Corsair would have been really sweet since the movie showcases naval aviators , but TC doesn’t own one. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 31, 2022 Super User Posted December 31, 2022 That lever they push to make the jet go faster . I like the part where Tom Cruise could push it forward better than anyone else causing the jet to go faster than anyone else could . 1 Quote
