Extra plastic baits

Ok when first starting out I bought everything people suggested, and now have came to find what works for me and what doesn't.

So that leaves me with tons of baits like flukes I don't plan on using, senko colors beavers like yum bad mama etc.  So is there a good way to organize them to get use do you just add a bag to your normal day of fishing and if the fish are biting switch to the bait your trying to use up?

No, that financially makes too much sense. The best way to go about this is to let your unused plastics accumulate into a mound. They didn’t perform, so now they have to permanently sit on the bench. Besides, how else are you going to be like every other bass fisherman that has more plastics than he/she could ever use in ten lifetimes?

I think we're all in the same boat and like @LrgmouthShad said we seem to accumulate about enough soft plastics for 10 lifetimes of fishing. If you want to get rid of them, you could either sell them on here, donate them to a new young fisherman, or find ways to use them. I've been wanting to use up some of mine, so I've started the long process of using more of my excess stuff when I'm out fun fishing. When the fishing is really tough, tournament day, or when I'm guiding, the confidence baits get pulled out again.

Give them away or throw them away.  If you are not

going to fish them why carry them around?

Keep them,  when I first started I picked up ribbon tailed worms in black and never fished them when I learned more about fishing clear water socal lakes. Then one day last year I pull out the 6 year old bag in the summer for night fishing.

If for some reason you have too many of those worms, I will absolutely buy some. I love black worms

I have so much stashed plastics in a spare bedroom, that the VOCs are actually starting to become a problem...

i have one of those 3 drawer plastic things you buy at walmart full of old plastics. i usually keep them for a year or 2 because i sometimes circle back to them. then theres the pegboard in the garage where i keep back stock of things i know are gonna go quickly......it never ends.

You work hard to buy bigger houses so you’ll have more room to store your ever increasing stash of tackle you’ll never use.  It a normal part of life. ?

Make a list, arrange them by type or brand, take a photo and sell them on Flea Market forum.

Worst case you will know what you have.

Beginning of April I usually end up selling or just giving away lots of used tackle.  I hate throwing stuff away that some one else could use.  I’ll sell the lots for a 2/3 less than I paid.  just to get rid of it and not throw away.
 

One spring I gave 2 1 gallon bags worth of hard baits and plastics to a co-workers grand son to use.  Granted a lot of those were bombers, other cheaper cranks, and  the Janns net craft house brand bait kits hard bait lures.  But, still god enough for younger person to fish and if they loose it not be out a lot.

than I buy more useless lures that I either won’t use or I can’t catch anything with and the cycle continues.

You could see if your local high school has a fishing team. If they do, I’m sure they’d appreciate any donations.
 

After you clean out the old stuff you can go buy more stuff you’ll never use, repeat, repeat, repeat. You help the economy, and your local school program.  ? ?

Recently I hung up a bunch of pegboard and very neatly organized my tackle. Doing so has resulted in easily being able to visually lay my eyes on many items that I do not normally use. It has also resulted in many new ideas, modifications of lures and different instances where I can now see myself using various lures that have been hidden away, not catching fish. 

A big part of me simply enjoys collecting the tackle whether I use it or not.

It sure is fun to look at a wall covered in tackle and think of it as your own personal bait shop haha 

I still don't know how to turn the photo so its not sideways lol but this is what I've been working at. Many thing are extras of bait that I use frequently and others are a result of the bait monkey.

I sorted all of mine by color and melted them into things I will use. Of course now I have 10 pounds of ribbon tail worms, but I try to ignore such minor details.

I don't buy what I'm not going to use anymore.  I hate clutter.  If there is a new lure or soft plastic that I'd like to try, I buy ONE and ONLY one until I can use it and make it prove its worth.  That way if its not effective, I'm only out one.

 

My Father saves everything and his basement and garage are just full of random crap.  I refuse to live like that.  He has an enormous work bench in his garage and you literally can't even see the surface of it.  It has turned into a storage bench.

 I try to be a minimalist in everything I do. I just don't see the point in having boxes and boxes full of stuff I'm never going to use. There's really only 4-5 soft plastics I use anymore, so I don't buy anything outside of those.

 

That being said, if anyone has any paddletail swimbaits they're looking to get rid of, I'm always looking for those!

This applies not only to bass fishing, but other belongings too.  I recently moved in May and realized I had WAY too much stuff I hadn't used in years.  Having to move will do that.  Most of it went right into the trash can.

Contact the conservation dept. and see if there is a way you can donate what you do not want to keep.
