Super User Sam Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 Anyone know of a shop that repairs old Lowrance units? Lowrance no longer works on my two units and I can't seem to find any marine electronics shop that will work on the units. Thanks. Quote
SeanW Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Lowrance didnt wanna work on my 2 year old units either. THey told me I need to up grade and offered me $50 off a new unit. ;D I bought Humminbird instead. The new group at Lowrance has put customer service in the toilet. They want everybody to buy the HDS units( I also have one and its nice), but one has to question their strategy to make that happen. Quote
Beav Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Was in same predicament in 04. If all else fails, I informed lowrance being they could not repair it, I would be looking to replace it maybe with a Humminbird had a x70 ,they sent me a $250 certificate towards a new lowrance. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 You will have the same experience with Humminbird old units also, but I am not familiar with any trade-in offers like Lowrance does. Each company developes new products and at some point don't keep stuff around to fix old stuff. That is the nature of the business. Buy the time a new unit is in production, they are already working the next new product, why?, the consumer whats NEW/IMPROVED stuff. Quote

Todd Driscoll Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Similar to what Wayne said, the reason Lowrance no longer works on certain older units is that they cannot get the parts from their suppliers. Technology moves so fast, that the folks supplying the parts move with it. If parts were available, units would be fixed. Quote

Although I agree somewhat, I feel sure if Lowrance was willing to purchase parts someone is willing to manufacture the parts. I think in truth Lowrance does not want to stock parts and employees to repair older units. They want to sell new units because of higher profit margins.................Al Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 16, 2011 Super User Posted January 16, 2011 I agree with you guys but take a look at anything else you own. Try buying a replacement part for something else that you have had for a year of two. It is almost impossible in this world of planned obsolescence that we now have. I have recently gone through that with battery chargers and dehydraters just to mention a couple. Quote
