You’re gonna make Yuki cry. If you think you can outdo Ito engineering, open your own company- Minibass ?

I have been fortunate to catch bass on spinnerbaits since I was a lad without modifications or additions.

I’m not sure how I feel about the blade combination or head design yet, but everything else on the SV-3 is just top notch. Really impressively built, everything from the hook size and thickness to the blade spacing

Zero chance im hacking apart a $15 megabass spinnerbait

And that’s why no one will remember your name…

By the way, it’s not hacking apart. It’s just changing a blade. The blade will be okay, I promise

Zero chance I'm buying a $15 megabass spinnerbait. Booyah and Z-man work just fine.

That Megabass bait is made that way for a reason. To me it looks like a bait made for clear and or pressured waters.  If you change the blades it will work but why not leave it alone? Buy some heads and make baits how you want them.

I have a problem with spinnerbaits too : I use 4 primary weight sizes (1/4th oz. - 3/4th oz.) , 5 different blade combinations and 5 different colors which comes out to 12,046 combinations of spinner baits ... I'm up to what seems like 8,000 spinner baits already in my obsession to have them all - not good hence I have a "spinner bait problem" (lol !!)

So many combinations. That’s what’s so great about them.

I was just thinking though that that SV-3 bluegill spinnerbait with the black nickel blades might be real nice in the summer along the bottom. With the stock blades too.

Sounds good ! Usually the shad color spinner baits get the most attention while the bluegill spinnerbaits with gold or colored blades get overlooked (big mistake in the summer) .

Must be your deodorant - my avatar bass was caught on a spinnerbait.

Why do ya'lls chatterbaits look funny?

What's weird is I love spinners and do well on them but I can probably count on my fingers how many I've pulled with a chatterbait.

Chatterbaits were made for Lake Menderchuck and Lake Menderchuck only. For us mortals, the OG spinnerbait is king ?

Still, what caught A-Jay’s best brown bass?

This is something I'm beginning to disagree with -- the idea that I should spend less on my baits.  While I don't own any Megabass SV-3s, I do see 70 positive reviews for them on Tacklewarehouse.  I've begun to branch into more expensive baits from the cheaper offerings, with the idea that I'll actually spend less money and catch more bass over time.  I'm not saying to always buy the most expensive offering, but I do have one example.

I had about two hundred dollars worth of Z-Man Chatterbaits and Z-Man Project Z Chatterbaits.  I threw them again and again, and always used to say I could not catch fish on bladed jigs.  I would slow roll them, burn them, yo-yo them, and rip them through grass.  Sure, I did catch a few fish, but I began noting just how positive the opinion is for the Z-Man Jackhammer and finally bit the bullet and grabbed a few.  I took them to a local grass lake where I've fished my Project Z and OG offerings, and tried out the Jackhammer.  I put twenty pounds in the kayak that day, and then added the Minimax to my arsenal.  It's another stellar bladed jig and I am now very confident in the presentation.  I should have spent that two hundred dollars on the cream of the crop and been done with it.

I am careful with the more expensive baits, I fish them with my budget in mind.  I only carry six Jackhammers, and I'm going to try my best to keep them in my possession instead of a snag or a mouth.  That doesn't mean I'm not throwing them into cover, I just keep them in 6' or less of water where I can typically push them out of whatever snag they're in with a push of my rod tip.  I check my line often and set my drag correctly to prevent fish breaking my line.

On the opposite end, I tried the Megabass Vision 110 and was absolutely unimpressed.  On a day fish were biting, I caught more on my Jackall Reranges and Strike King KVD Deeps.  I've almost replaced all of my Reranges with Yo-Zuri 3DB 110s, which have a very similar flash and action, they just don't cast as far.  For my water the Vision 110 has not excelled.  I believe my water is not clear enough for the bait to really work it's visual magic.

This is all just my two cents, and at the end of the day you should fish what you want and spend your money how you want.  My own money has just begun to go farther by spending my money differently rather than saying I need a box full of bladed jigs in case they're on the bladed jig or a box full of spinnerbaits in case someone else is catching them on them.

Maybe give a renowned bait a fair shake, it isn't like spinnerbaits aren't incredibly weedless and typically fished on line strong enough to stand up to most fish that inhale them.  I'll be giving the Megabass SV-3 a shake in the spring and I'm very excited, I don't think they're gonna make me as good as the spinnerbait fishermen on this board, but I believe they'll add another bit of confidence into my wheelhouse and currently the bait class of spinnerbait doesn't reside there.

My experience is different - until this year when I purchased and was gifted some S.O. Fogys, all I'd use was Z-Man Originals - and caught quite a few fish on them.

Next year I'll see how Mike's offerings work...but I'll always have Z-Man Originals in my box cause they've worked for me just fine.

Go for it!!! cut them, paint them and replace parts.. they are just baits that may get lost in a brush pile anyway.

Keep one original and one with the mods, that way you can compare and report your findings here.

I rarely lose a spinnerbait so long as not fishing from the bank while also fishing on the bottom while also fishing around timber.

Excited to hear you’ll give the SV-3 a try. Two other great spinnerbait frames that I like are the Nichols frame, especially 3/8oz, and 1/2oz Booyah Coverts

I really wanted the Z-Man Power Finesse Sling Bladez to work, but that thing came through the water popping a wheelie and I just hate the look of it.  I believe the fish did too.

I was gonna give the War Eagle spinnerbaits a try alongside the SV-3, and I'm now wondering if they kinda fill the same role?

Well first I am going to assume you mean the standard double willow war eagles since war eagle makes a bunch of different ones. If so, I don’t truly know since I have not fished the SV-3s. I look forward to trying them and was happy to receive them as a gift.

But I would think they fish pretty different. The blade shape, blade thickness, and frame size between the two spinnerbaits varies quite a bit. But in terms of profile, yeah, I would say they are pretty similar.

The screaming eagle is another matter and so are the rest of war eagle spinnerbaits. For specific war eagle questions, I would direct them to @Bluebasser86

Well, after last year when I really couldn't spend anything on tackle and rigs cause it was going into the F-9 rebuild....I decided to splurge a little this year. :tongue-047:
