Hey y’all,

GoneFishingLTN’s thread reminded me that I have a problem with spinnerbaits. I just can’t let a spinnerbait stay the way it is out of the pack. I always want to change something. @Gera gave me some absolutely sweet looking SV-3s and I know how good of reviews they get, but I still want to change something about the bait. I can’t stop thinking about changing that back blade to a large hildebrandt and keeping the front blade the same. For the sake of preserving the gift as is, I will start to throw them with the stock blades, but this is my confession that it probably won’t stay that way.

Sometimes I just can’t let a skirt be either. I’ll think, “man, this spinnerbait is great, but it would be amazing with a rubber skirt.” Luckily the SV-3s is too awesome for me to change.

I have a problem. Always tinkering with these things. Never satisfied

You remind me of a co-worker's brother in law.  He is a die hard spinnerbait guy, and stubborn as a mule.  He tosses "greenie" (its a spinnerbait with a neon green skirt AND green blades) every time he is bass fishing and refuses to switch it up.  Even when someone starts slaying them on a different technique or lure, he sticks with greenie.

I was fishing with him one time and my co-worker about 5 years ago.  Me and the co-worker started hammering fish on a tube, while the brother in law just kept tossing greenie.  After about 15 fish in 20 minutes, he finally looked over at us and said "you and your rubbers."

He never did switch over to another presentation that day and ironically, he never caught a fish.  He has a tackle box full of lures too.  They never even get used lol.

the only lure I have a dedicated rod setup for is the spinnerbait. I've found I can work with them as the come out of the pack aside from skirt trimming and bending the wires to get the gap I like. My problem is my automatic solution to everything is the spinnerbait. Not getting hits on top, spinnerbait; no hits on bottom, spinnerbait; no hits on spinnerbait, must be the spot.

At your rate I dont see why you just dont start building them yourself!

I have. I’ll dig for a photo later but I bought blanks and started tying my own skirts and coming up with the blade combinations and spacing myself

that spinner bait spins with enthusiasm at ANY speed.  i found i had to slow it way the heck down, and when it came up boat side the blades are thumping...  thumping.

I can be like that sometimes, yup. Just depends though. Yesterday for the short while I was fishing, I only threw spinnerbaits about 10% of the time. Vast majority was jigs and lipless. Just felt like they were a better option for the conditions and depth I was fishing (20ft)

I didn't figure you for being stubborn as a mule.  I know you're a spinnerbait guy and so am I, but there comes a time when they just aren't effective.  We both know it.  If I could catch fish on one all season, I'd keep tossing it.

Side note: a spinnerbait was a very effective lure for me this past season at times.  Let's get @TnRiver46 in on this thread...

Lol. He’ll be here. He likes to look in on these threads. Maybe dream about catching a biggun on a spinnerbait

It's not just you. I did really good for a while with SK bleeding bait spins, till I found War Eagle baits and the thinner wire war eagles way out fished the SK baits which had thicker wire. Then this summer I had a War Eagle tied on and the Father in law had a bait I made tied on with a unique blade combo and out fished me 5 to 1. I was happy (my creation caught them) and torqued at the same time because I hate being out fished lol.

In my fishing I have found blade combos #1 and wire size #2 in importance. So I guess I would be in favor of you changing out the rear blade because they see tons of double willows:)

Neither does orange... :)

I am firmly and unapologetically in the "I have a problem" with spinnerbaits club...

As a young kid getting into fishing, all I wanted to do was catch a bass with a spinnerbait. I think around that time Terminator had just come out with their T-1, and they were being marketed everywhere. The baits certainly caught my attention, but never did catch me a bass. Not till nearly 20 years later. Confidence can be key with a bait or style, and mine has never come to include these. I know they work, but at this point I have had one successful afternoon of fishing with them. Still have the box of baits I begged my parents to buy.

If you mess around with that SV-3 spinnerbait, the Fishing Gods will curse you and your fishing season. Don't do it!

The SV-3 is a smaller profile spinnerbait which excels at times when the bigger blades ain't cutting it.

I admittedly skew towards large willows and small Colorado’s and Indiana’s

I make most of mine but will buy one if I see some interesting blades . I'll wear that spinnerbait out then transfer the blades to a new bait . I dont do anything to store bought baits except switch skirts to a different pattern when needed . I dont wire tie skirts . I buy ones that can be removed and carry a lot of them .  Weight is the most important factor for me , not blades or skirt .

I never mess with them anymore.   It seems to me like if they'll bite a white, dual willow, they'll bite a black, single Colorado.  Plus, I lose them at a rate that makes it not worth my time getting too attached to them.  If a spinnerbait lasts a year for me, it's because I've forgotten where I put it.

There is a time and place for every fishing lure and technique. If all you want is to catch fish on the same thing the same way, then that's what you will do.  Just know you are missing a lot of fish.

You’re gonna make Yuki cry. If you think you can outdo Ito engineering, open your own company- Minibass ?

I have been fortunate to catch bass on spinnerbaits since I was a lad without modifications or additions.
