Super User Munkin Posted December 27, 2022 Super User Posted December 27, 2022 After reading some of the posts and the fact it is 12 degrees here figured I can start some winter discussions. So, what are the lures that work for you that most have never heard of? Mine are all JDM but others may have something domestic that others may want to look into? My list: Imakatsu Riprizer Jerkbait Jackal DD Squirrel Team Daiwa Popper Evergreen Wild Hunch crankbait Jackal Bonnie 95 walking topwater Evergreen M1 Inspire minnow jerkbait Team Daiwa Vibration lipless These are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head? There are more that I use but I have heard them mentioned by others on this site. Allen 3 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted December 27, 2022 Super User Posted December 27, 2022 Heddon Moss Boss. Its so old lots of younger guys haven't heard of it. Johnson Silver Minnow is another one. 8 Quote
KP Duty Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Lucky craft BDS1 was my hard-to-find fish catching gem. But now they are back at TW and I read that Tactical bassin' is recommending them ?. I still throw the LC Moonsault cranks...they have caught fish for me in all the sizes/depths. I have a pile of new OSP baits from Japan to try this year... 2 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 27, 2022 Super User Posted December 27, 2022 I suspect a lot of the younger generation have never heard of culprit worms , or mann’s Jelly worms. They are both still relevant fish producers… 15 Quote

I like them quite a bit. I know people on this form have heard of it but if I ever mention it to anyone "in the wild" they look at me like i spoke another language. Jitterbug has been responsible for some of my largest bass. 2 Quote

To me the best and probably the least known plastic that Culprit makes is their Fat Max ribbon tail. It has the bulk and tail action that very few others can match. (I may be a little biased as that is what I got my PB on) Mike 8 Quote
softwateronly Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 I'm usually learning about new (to me) techniques/lures here and youtube. That'll probably reflect in the three lures I think people should be more aware of.... - fintech title shot. Very versatile and useful in weedy lakes. Pretty sure it was someone on this site that pointed it out. - dale hollow tackle punisher jigs. A-Jay was the first to post it that I paid attention to. - nishine erie 115sd jerkbait. This jerk in hologram smelt is absolute killer for me in my clear water. I think this was a youtuber for one episode. Mikeyballz? - honorable mention; poor boy baits eerie darter is a drop shot killer. Though I read that quality might have gone down recently and I don't like drop shotting. Then this is more of a notice to the midwest peeps, gambler is a seriously overlooked company up here. Their soft plastic line up and terminal tackle deserve to be considered for our natural weedy lakes. scott Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 27, 2022 Super User Posted December 27, 2022 Another one is “ Producto tournament worms “ It was one of my top 3 baits to fish in the St Johns river system , back when. Black grape son !! 3 Quote

Those little craws are Larew 'tiny salt craws'. I bet some of the last in exsistence. 5 Quote

Though I have seen many with stocks of Jelly Worms that sat completely untouched for years, with packages just yellowing in place. I finally bought some, but the price has gone from about $4 to about $8 per pack in 2 years. Culprits are sold at DSG's near us too. Not to say they are widely used! Quote

My personal vote will go to ringworms, though. Not the kind you need to medicate, but these bad boys: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-LKESTRK.html?from=basres https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Zoom_Dead_Ringer_Worm_4/descpage-Z4DRW.html Had some absolutely banger numbers days on them when the bite is tough in the dead heat of summer. Great on a dropshot, too. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 27, 2022 Super User Posted December 27, 2022 Nemire Red Ripper* weedless spoon in both gold and a silver. Owner Cultiva Zip n Zigger in baby bass during post spawn. **Yamamoto 5 1/2” Slink-O (floating Senko). * Lucky Strike Bought Nemire haven’t tried them since. Tom ** corrected Slink-O, excellent on a mushroom head jig ala Ned rig. Quote
PotatoLake Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Two soft plastics that caught fish for me this year, 1. Keitech Krazy Flapper, 2. Nishine Lure Works Namazu. Both Free rigged. Two hard baits that were constant fish catchers, Warm Water: Deps Evoke 2.0, Cold Water OSP Dunk. Quote

Johnson Silver Minnow is another one. And don't forget the original CastMaster spoon. Looks like a useless slab of metal, but is great for jigging in deep water, and casts a mile. I also still use the Original Cream pre-rigged worm. It still works great, although you almost never see them anymore. Sometimes Walmart has them, and you can find them online. Quote

I'm a younger man but have come to love the Johnson silver minnow. Admittedly though, the odds of me picking one up and using it would've been slim to none if i didn't listen to what you guys had to say about its effectiveness in grass... 7 Quote
Will Ketchum Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 In live bait it's the hellgramite. They're picked from under rocks in the river's current and drifted through the rifts for SM in the Susquehanna. 3 Quote

The RC 1.5 is my #1 crankbait overall for at least the past 10 years but for some reason the BDS series never really worked for me overall? The exception to that is the Marty Stone BDS 1.2 in Ghost Minnow which is my favorite finesse crankbait for clear water. Wish they would have made a deeper diving version of that bait. Allen 1 Quote

Culprits are readily available in any store that carries fishing stuff, down here anyway… Ive only found Mann’s at Dick’s SG , which I rarely go to anymore. And they are only the jumbo 12 inchers. I mainly used the 10 inch ones-( Caught my PB on a grape one). 1 Quote
