Berkley stunna

Now that it’s been out for a while, who throws the stunna 112 or 112+1? Picked up a few during the Purefishing sale. Won’t be able to fish them until spring, but they look decent.

 

What do you like/dislike most about them? How do they stack up against some over the other tried and true jerkbaits?

I just picked up a few more with the pure fishing deals, but they are still in my personal undecided category.  Vision 110+1, jr+1, and Rerange MR are on steady rotation while the Nishine Lure Works Erie 115SD Jerkbait is the star.  I added in the stunna +1 and world diver this year and caught with both, but a slight edge to the world diver. 

 

If my memory is correct, the stunna has good roll and an erratic dart, but always seems to move forward on the jerks, it sits slight nose down, suspends/slow sinks below 55ish, and has good hardware, the fusions seem like the real deal to me.  For my fish, when I can get a jerkbait to roll and dance without much forward movement, including 90 and 180 degree turns, I catch more.  The action on the stunna suits my fish best on a faster cadence with more forward movement, but that's usually the time of year when I can start to get to my preferred single hook presentation.  Regardless, I still have enough confidence to give them another year to see if I can dial in when it might shine, it also didn't hurt as much at $5 a pop.

Also picked up a few stunnas this past month to try them out in 2023, looking foward to throwing them up here in the Northeast, I have the sliver and yellow perch patterns.

Great baits, a must have in my jerkbait box. There's just times when a slow sinking bait will greatly outproduce a suspending bait and they're a very consistent bait right out of the box. I've got several of the 112's and 112+1's.

They work. I like that they slow sink and prefer a SS when the water gets down to 52 or below. The Hanky Panky color is special.

For me, the Stunna is the deal for power fishing a jerkbait. Fishing it more like a crankbait shallow, nonstop casting and retrieving, but because it is a jerkbait I will pause it around high % areas of the cover I am fishing. Cast, jerk jerk jerk, jerk jerk, pause, jerk jerk jerk, reel up, another cast & repeat. I had a lot of luck doing this in the middle to late spring and the early summer. One of the best parts is, is that is still works great in traditional jerkbait ranges, like the early spring and the entirety of the fall. For me, if the fish are finnicky, 110. Otherwise I am probably throwing a Stunna. On the 110 I feel like I get more of those pecking strikes or light grabs where you jerk again and the fish is there, whereas most of the Stunna bites are my drag suddenly initiating and running. 

 

The Silver Dolla color is my best producer, but I caught multiple good fish on the Blaze red one in the spring.

Never got a bite all year.

I picked up a few Stunnas for a trip to Lake Champlain earlier this year. We did good on SM, especially over rock piles and I had one tied on most of the trip. We also picked up many small pike fishing weed lines with them. 

 

When we came home I used them in some local lakes and ponds and I'm happy with the results. My gut feeling is they seem to produce better than some of the jerk baits I normally use.

I hate to say it but the Stunna has been my most disappointing bait of 2022. Zero fish and zero bites.

 

Not sure what it is. It looks good in the water but no takers. I even gave two to buddy of mine and he too hasn't caught a fish.  The odd thing, I can cast just about any other similar colored jerkbait in the same areas and get bit. 

 

I will keep trying it though. It looks too good.

As stated above my experience has been just the opposite.

 

But your post has me wondering. Every once in a while I find a lure that just catches fish while similar or identical lures catch nothing. Maybe when the water warms I'll fish a couple of Stunnas side by side to see if the one I fish with most draws more bites than the others.

I mentioned myself and my buddy but the guys I tournament fish went all in on this bait. Like me they are looking for a cheaper alternative to the 110.  When some of them find a bait they like, they don't buy one or two to try out. They buy a dozen or so of the colors they like or one case I know a guy that bought 30 of the Shad Fillet (Skeleton color?). All of them have struggled with this bait. 

 

I have tried it on my go to pond where I can catch fish on anything and still no good. 

 

Like I said, I haven't completely given up on this bait. I still need to fish it in cold water but until it gets bit, I am sticking with the 110 and the LC Pointer SP.

I'm too cheap to buy just another jerkbait over ten bucks and the replies in this thread tell me to keep this one off my radar.  If I want a slow sink, I can add a suspen-strip to my already suspending baits.  I wasn't impressed with the Megabass Vision 110, either, and plain and simply catch more bass on Jackall Reranges, Yo-Zuri 3DBs, and KVD 200s and 300 Deeps.

For a 110 class-size slow-sink - I've got my Shadow Rap 11s and Deep Shadow Rap 11s.

Jerk baits in general have a habit of making me look like a jerk.   

 

I've got a friend who throws a stunna more than any other lure.

It has been a good bait for me.  I wish they had a few additional color options.  Why are there not more black crappie imitating colors by any of the lure companies?  I have painted one all black with silver flake and it has produced.

I haven't thrown the Stunna as much as a couple of others, but the gold/black has produced for me. I lost a bunch of fish on it including a big prespawn fish one of the first days I threw it, the trebles were dull out of the package. A little honing and the problem disappeared. Hooks are super sticky on the other one I bought, so I think I just got unlucky. I would prefer a shorter shank treble, though.

 

Overall, I don't prefer the slow-sink action, I would prefer a slow-rise out of the box which is much more forgiving and able to be modified for different water temps and hardware. But it has a great slashing action and it does work as advertised right out of the box.

I was considering purchasing one of these to try.  A jerk bait has become a main stay in my arsenal for a considerable portion of the season the last few years.

 

I think I'm going to pass based on the experiences just in this thread alone though.

There's so many 110 size-class jerks out there that you could try one a day and still have some left by the end of the season.

I passed on them.   the Vision is very effective for me, and I am not compelled to change a thing at this point.

 

even my Pointer is fishless.  I try and try, nothing.  snip it off tie on a Vision and, "oooooh-o"

I sometimes feel like I'm the only person on BR who throws Husky Jerks and catches lots of fish on them. Anyone else have luck with them? Very inexpensive too.

Husky Jerk was my first foray into jerkbaits a few years ago. Still a good one, especially for how inexpensive it is. Hardware upgrade is a must on any Rapala hardbait, IME. I still throw them inshore for trout and reds.

My orginal 112 in the Hankie Pankie color is basically see through from all the fish it's caught. I've got a whole slot of one of my jerkbait boxes that is nothing but Stunnas and I still feel like I need more of them.
