in our household we have both.  one cat, one dog.  I sometime think my cat (while she is staring at me) is imagining what I taste like.  I picked the cat, and I love my cat, but I have nicknamed her "last cat".  my wife will eyeball me hard.  she is a cat person.  she says things like, "science says cat people are generally smarter than dog people".

"cats are easier".  debatable.  trying to clean out a litter box, shoe-horned into a hidden corner of a room while trying to hold your breath for the duration - I dont call that easy.  that full on sprint to the nearest pile of paper, to quickly scan/read it for level of importance and to full on sprint back to the cat, doing that "blook blook blook" sound indicating a VOMIT HAIR BALL IS COMING.._again..not easy.  you dont want to use your W-2 paperwork for vomit catchment paper.  same goes for the passport renewal application.

my dog is goofy.  loving. loyal.  many times he can bite me, but never does.  not even when I reach for his bone or bowl.  I dont think he has ever wondered what do I taste like. I hug him every morning.  he will stuff his head under my comforter and I pop out in a half lean and grab and hug him.  he wiggles full body and wags his tiny stump.   my cat will meow at me, and I give her a head nod.  maybe scratch her head.  hahah.. (enter any wife comment here)

Me..I am firmly in the dog camp.

Neither.  When I hunted I had bird dogs.  When the last good one died I quit.  Out in the country we had barn cats but not in town.

Dog person without a doubt. Grew up with dogs and have 3 of my own. Dogs and outdoorsmen go together like PB&J.

Cats I’m allergic to and like my furniture to remain in tact.

Well we have two dogs and three cats, so I guess both?‍♂️. I’d say I’m more of a dog person than cat, but I don’t mind our cats, they do all have very funny and different personalities. One thing about a cat is you can leave them alone a bit longer than a dog, unless your dog can use a litter box of course?

My brother was allergic to dogs but not cats, so we had cats.

Dogs are often more fun, but when it comes to taking off for a couple/three day days, cats are easier: clean box, food & water … they could care less.

Dogs ~

We seem to share a sort of kindship.

I just feel better when I'm with my dogs.

Prefer full sized models.

Our cats are outdoor cats. They only use a box when the ground is frozen.

Since we’ve been married we had either one of the other.
Some years both

I am firmly in the dog camp.  Always have been, always will be.  My dog is not only a loyal member of the family, but she is also a bird-hunting machine.

I generally do have a problem with people having a cat, as long as they are in the house.  When they are out in the countryside roaming and being predators, taking out upland game birds, then there is a problem.  Those feral ones aren't anyone's pet anymore, and are considered invasive, introduced, non-native predators.

Coyotes love them though.  I saw a yote take out a black stray cat while I was deer hunting in November.

You didn't have a "both" option.  We have had 3 dogs in recent years. Two were rescues, and the other we took in when her owner had to move out of state and could not take her. 2 of the dogs died from old age, but at least for the years they were with us they were health and happy, and very loved. We also have 5  cats at this time, all rescues. We fenced the front yard for the dogs, and I closed up the front porch with chicken wire so the cats can go "outdoors" without being at risk of being eaten by coyotes. They are basically indoor cats with outdoor visiting rights. Over the past few years we have had a total of 14 cats, but never more than 5 at a time. We always say we are just going to make sure they get neutered and have been checked out by a vet and gotten their shots, and then we are going to rehome them. But we always fall in love with them and almost never give them up. One cat we took in was pregnant and had 6 kittens. We did rehome 4 of them to good homes (we are very picky about the homes they go to), but we kept 2 of them and the momma cat.

Dogs by a long shot.

Cats are evil and always plotting. If they had thumbs they would kill you.

If dogs had thumbs they'd pop open your beer for you.

Dog person here as well.

If House-cats grew any bigger we would be on the menu.

Dog person.  I've never owned a cat and I don't think ever will.

When I saw this poll I would’ve bet three paychecks that the majority of people on here are dg people; I think it’s just a personality thing. I am a dog person but our cats are fun little jackals too.

Dog is mans best friend.  If a precious little house cat was big enough it would kill it's human and eat them.

Heck yeah!!!!!

I've always jokingly said that when it's my time to go, I hope a big cat eats me.

Now the new joke is going to be: " An Alabama man was eaten alive today by an Alabama Bass when the man fell overboard, officials with Alabama's department of Game and Fish estimate the Spotted Bass sub species to be around 400lbs.    At this time the fish has not been dispatched, and the public is warned from entering the waters until further notice"  ???

Had a 6.2lb fish "deglove" the skin on the front of my thumb this summer.....it was a very impressive injury.

Bigger Spots, and LGMs of 5lbs will "bite" the bleep out you when you go deep to get a hook.   I usually get bitten like this digging out a 4/0-5/0 EWG T-Rig setup.    I'd rather deal with trebles and big Bass, than a single heavy jig/t rig/bladed jig hook and big Bass.

It's a sign of accomplishment in my book, but Bass can shred your hands before you even notice due to adrenaline and excitement.

I always use pliers for removing hooks.  I've got a cut resistant glove that I usually wear on the hand that's not using the pliers especially when dealing with trebles.   I'm a guitar player so I try to take care of my hands.   Back in June I got finned to the bone in my foot by a 7 pound catfish Mrs B caught on a red eyed shad.   Someone had told Mrs B to rub some catfish slime on the wound if you get finned.  Rubbing it's tail on the wound instantly relieved the pain.  It was sore for weeks afterward though.
