Made my first ever on line purchase from one of the most discussed Japanese sites.  It was the only place with stock on a reel I wanted.  Got the reel quickly, saved some $, but little more than I would have saved from my favorite U.S. site during one of their sales, if they had stock.   Four days later my credit card company caught two unauthorized transactions on my card.  Anyone else have a similar experience?

Not from ordering JDM - only time I've had issues is after ordering from a "well respected" California tackle shop.

My wife's Visa card has been hacked and replaced two times in the past few months.  The bank, (Truist) has been closing her cards and issuing new ones, but it seems Visa must have some kind of problem.  I never have any problem with American Express, but it's not accepted everywhere.

Not from a tackle vendor as far as I know. Only time it happened I was sitting in my home in upstate NY and was alerted that my credit card was used to purchase 2 bus tickets in New Jersey. ??‍♂️ Never found out how but getting it sorted out was a breeze.

I’ve been hacked a couple times.  Once while traveling and when the gas pump asked me to enter my zip it got denied.  Wife and I were traveling back from Florida so she called the cc company as we drove.  Whoever got my info actually went in and changed the mailing address so we would not get any bill and the scam could go longer.  If I hadn’t gotten gas which required my zip I wouldn’t have known for a while, possibly a couple months.  Daughter just got hacked in a short time frame for the second time.  When she asked for direction from the issuing bank, she was told not to attach her apple wallet or Apple Pay to her card, that seems to be where a lot of scammers are hitting.  I don’t have an Apple phone and have -0- tied to it.

I've had it compromised 4x.  all four times, it think they do a few test runs.  I see $3 charges for sodas and stuff.   my bank says they are testing it before they run to best buy to get the big TV purchases.

my wife is like an eagle-eye to that stuff and shuts it all down stat.

Not yet, I was part of the Tackle Warehouse fiasco, but so far so good.

I do get notified for every purchase over $10, hopefully that’ll keep things from getting too deep if it were to happen.

FWIW, all credit bureau files are kept locked, supposedly.

Not from a JDM. Mine was hacked after purchasing from TW or Academy. I ordered stuff from both places on the same day prior to the hack. Thankfully my C/U caught it and locked down my card before any damages.

I am a big on line shopper.

There's not a lot of purchase options locally.

My accounts/cards have been compromised several times.

Seems it's part of the deal.

Never cost me a cent.  Just the inconvenience of waiting for a new card.

I get an email/text the instant any of my accounts or cards are used or accessed;

including PayPal.

Most every bank does this and I check it every morning.

I've even had my bank just call me and tell me my card's been hacked

and that they are sending me a new one.

It's a bummer but being able to have whatever at my front door

whenever I need it is totally worth it for me.

A-Jay

Oh Christ you had to ask. Let the onslaught of tackle warehouse sucks and is the devil comments commence. In all seriousness I've been very lucky so far...I'm sure someday they will get me. In October I ordered a custom garage door from home depot..within 45 seconds I got one of those alerts from the credit card company saying hey did you do this or is it fraudulent? They are looking out for it at least

Nope, I have my card tethered to my iPhone Bank of America app, it will check the GPS location of my phone and the deny/alert me to charges that aren't me.

I've got a couple store cards, and a gas card that all get a discount when I make a purchase.  I don't have a visa, mastercard of anything like that.  I use a prepaid card for online purchases.  I'll keep almost nothing on it until I'm ready to make a purchase.   So far so good.   I also use Paypal for a few things.  I have a bank account that I keep a fairly low balance it to use with it.   I'll transfer monty when I want to make a purchase.

Thanks to y'all for the inputs.  When I began this thread the purpose was to determine if others had been hacked after ordering from Japan;  apparently not.  BOA has taken very good care of me when it comes to sending alerts and blocking suspicious purchases, but the inconvenience of being without the card for about a week when that happens, then registering the new card with my auto-pays is a pain.

I've refrained from disclosing what the hacker attempted to buy with my card for fear of Glenn banning me from this site.  It had nothing to do with bass fishing.

I've only ordered JDM a few times, and so far no issues. Gonna pick up a couple more JDM Zillions soon. Stuff comes from Japan much faster than from California. Go figure.

I supposedly bought two top end Sea Dos in Florida 30 minutes before trying to make a  purchase from Lowe's in central Ga. Also had a commercial printer/copy machine the size of a mini Cooper show up at my house. All purchased with my credit card numbers during the period of my back surgury and rehab. No doubt in my mind my info was sold from one of the many medical places I visited.

Both my credit card and my debit card have been hacked multiple times over the years.  They are both VISA so fraud protection is the same.  I am not responsible for unauthorized purchases.  I've had reps call me out of the blue when they suspect fraud.

The annoying part is waiting for the new card to arrive.  And then I have to set up all my automatic payments on bills to the new card.

I don't do much online shopping.  My preference is in-store.  But I also have access to a variety of retailers within a short distance of my house too.  Not everyone does.

My sister in law had her card hacked back in the spring.  She is still dealing with it.  She had a fraud alert placed on her card so that everytime a purchase is made she gets a call asking if it is a legit purchase or not.

The aggravating thing is that the hackers opened up a new card in my sis in laws name.  She tried to get it closed, but since she didn't open it she doesn't know the security questions and the company will not cancel the card.
