Big Hands Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 16 rod/reel combos are on the roster and available to suit up for game day. 6 @ Spinning combos - Finesse 2 @ BFS-ish combos 3 @ Crankbait combos 1 @ Swimbait combo 3 @ Bottom Contact combos Usually 4 make the trip to the lake, but could actually be anywhere from 3 to 6. I always have at least one spinning rod and one casting rod, and the rest could be either or. Sometimes there will be a redundancy or two. If someone else will be in the boat with me, I try to limit us to 3 or 4 rods each. The rest of my gear most days will consist of one tackle bag and a net. Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted December 23, 2022 Super User Posted December 23, 2022 I keep four or five setups on my boat's deck when fishing and as many as will fit in the rod locker. I have between three and five on my kayak. Quote
jitterbug127 Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I take 1-3 combos depending on the day and what I think will get bites. 1 rod will be if I'm going with a specific technique for the trip and 3 rods will be to cover each water column. I only own 7 combos, so nothing too fancy. Quote

As you can see, the range of what works for others can be all over the place. Next time you look into a mirror, have an honest chat with the Bait Monkey ? Easier said than done for many of us, but I generally suggest that you figure out what works best for YOU. Quote

I am willing to bet I have the least amount of bass rods/reels and just bass gear in general than anyone on this forum. I can take everything I own on my boat and it’s by no means full or cluttered. It's all good though right? I feel like there are quite a few people on this site that have entered the "collector" stage of buying equipment at this point, myself included. I feel like at any point in time I have multiple rods, reels or combos that are brand new and have never been used at that point. Its a sickness and the bait monkey don't give a d**n! 2 1 Quote

Clutter is the biggest problem for me when trying to enjoy fishing. I’ve enjoyed fun fishing so much more when its me, a rod and a pack of senkos. I started this hobby/addition 10+ years ago. Some years I get a bunch of gear through a work stipend for hobbies. When I can’t be out fishing, obsessing about the gear is another hobby in itself. After a while, the stuff just accumulates. Quote

I have probably 12k worth of musky stuff. Some I haven’t even used in fear of losing because I can’t get it again. Most of that stuff is hand paint/hand made. Some baits are worth $300. $500 reels it goes on and on. I can say though 95% of that stuff has been used and abused. Always looking for that bait for the right situation. Which I have learned never really works out. 6 hours ago, TimTheGearNerd said: I started this hobby/addition 10+ years ago. Some years I get a bunch of gear through a work stipend for hobbies. I can’t honestly say for bass that it will be that way for me. I got spoiled not having to retie to change stuff. So that’s why I want a bunch of rod and reel combos. I have never really been big on color. I have my stuff I always want to have on deck ready to rock and roll. Then a few in the tackle box to switch if I see I may need something different. When I am not fishing I’m trying to think of different areas or a place I’d like to explore on the water. 2 Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 I usually have about 10 rigged when I go out but I don't want to have more than 2 on the deck (using one) at a time. Since I am fishing by myself 95% of the time, I put 4 rods or so on the back deck. Quote
Fallser Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 Generally, when I'm fishing with my buddies. One medium spinning rod, and two fly rods, a 6 wgt and an 8 wgt. Sometimes I might add a light spinning rod. None of the boats have rod lockers, so it's minimalist fishing. When I go up to a lodge in Ontario, I have "rocket launcher" built from an old wooden milk crate. I drive the boat, and it sits in front of me. It will hold five spinning rods, two fly rods and has a rod holder on one side that holds my trolling rod. Since I usually have to share the holders with whoever is in the boat with me. I'll have three spinning rods, two rigged for jigging, one for casting lures, one trolling rod and two fly rods. Quote
