How many rods do you generally have ready to rock and roll when you go out fishing? I used to think it was over kill but I seem to keep adding rod and reel combos. Mainly because I don’t want to retie all the time. I will be up to five rods after Christmas.

I can't really take more than 6 rods in my current setup.  14ft Jon Boat

I'd take 20 if I could, I loathe retying while actually fishing.   I hate messing with tackle while actually fishing.  I try to think ahead as much as possible to have the baits and rods I think will be needed.  I still drag so much unneeded tackle and few rods and reels that never get used.

More times than not I'm catching fish on only one or two baits, rarely am I catching fish on every rod I brought.

This next year I'll have 15 combos in the boat. Pre-rigged with lures at launch, it's usually 6-8 depending on the day.

That is where musky fishing spoiled me. All the leaders have snaps so it’s easy to change out. I refuse to use snaps for bass.

Pick one good knot that's quick to tie...I do change out, and the knot I use is solid and fairly easy. I use it for all terminal connections.

You could use leaders on your bass setups.  Just kidding lol

I'm probably somewhere in the same realm as @MN Fisher.  I own about 15 setups, but really only a few of them get used in any single outing.  If I'm constantly switching setups or lures, that means the bite is not good.

I only keep 3 on my front deck, and the rest are in my rod locker.  Anything more than 3 on my front deck tends to get tangled up, as I only have a 17.5 mod V aluminum bass boat.

I only have 7 rod/reel setups, I just store them in the back of my Toyota Sequoia as I travel. I have a 14' Fiberglass boat so I have no storage for rods.

Have never taken more then 3. I do change baits a lot. I don't have specific use setups, just differing weights. 6 total.

I know, blasphemy.

If not my boat, 8.  4 spinning 4 casting. If my boat 10-12 on deck.  If I’m traveling out of state, I have gotten 38 in the rod locker.

Great beginners guide, Kent.

Question is....how many do you have and how many do you set up before a trip?

Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

Remove 2 and I might fit! ?

I’ve got 7 combos (8 after Christmas from what I’m told ?) but I tend to only take 4 with me at any given time. Here lately I’ve been using my spinning setups more than the casting ones. No boat here, just the ‘toon and fishing cart.

There is a new boat being searched for very hard at the moment, it will account for both of us, plus a bunch of rods ?

Looking at just buying an older Bass boat without a motor, or removing it, and then having the inside restored by a guy in N. AL.  Add a nice front TM, and thinking of getting one of the Newport Vessel electric outboards, the 3hp model for the transom.   As much time as I spend on the water, it's worth investing in something.

One spinning, one casting. My needs are simple.

What size are you looking for @AlabamaSpothunter? Specs? If I run across any I’ll let you know. Gonna have a good bit of downtime after tomorrow ?

16-18'.    Looking to drop 1500-3k on the boat, then 500-1000 for the restoration of carpet and seals on compartments, etc.

A buddy and very wealthy neighbor bought one of these boats that is built off an old Bass Boat mold.   Then he creates a flat top for them.      The absolute greatest small lake boat I've ever seen.

Dude wanted $20k+ for them......yeah I'm just getting a 2010 Bass Boat for that price lol.

Welcome to Flat Top Boats (flatopboats.com)

I generally fish rivers in Central Texas out of a kayak and usually take 5 or 6 rods. No problem storing them behind the seat upright in a milk crate with rod tubes. This may sound like overkill, but I use different rods for different lures/baits and presentations and they all get used every trip I make. I had a full fledged bass boat years ago when I fished lakes and got used to having quick access to different options as they presented themselves.

I usually have 6 or 7 on the deck and 5 in the rod box for different techniques

On my deck it is generally 3 casting and 3 spinning. I can pull other out from down under if I need them or totally change up some tactic.

Most times my spare rods are placed and facing out the back deck. I don’t like a lot of stuff around my feet and all over the place.

I carry everything down to the boat and I do it in one trip. 3 or 4 rods and 6 3700s in my bag. I live on the water, I know what time of the season it is and water clarity, and I’ve fished here for over 20 years. I pretty much determine what I’ll be using before I leave the back porch. I pre-rig 4 rods and usually only use 2 of them for most of the day, and one of them likely has a spinnerbait on the end.
