This came in the mail today about two weeks earlier than expected. Just as the ice is forming. Looking forward to trying it out in the spring. Putting it on a Fury rod I've had awhile. I'll be going back to mono. Don't care much for fluoro and I do like braided but not leaders so much. As I get old(er) well, maybe just old, the fingers are fumblier by a factor of 3x. Joining braid and leader is not too fun any longer. Besides, I did mono for umpteen years since I was 8 years old so it's no stranger.

Nice reel @DanielG! I’m looking to picking one of those up after Christmas. I like the Shimano spinning reels.

Little out of my budget, but a nice looking reel.

Well it's moveable to either side. Interestingly I'm a lefty but crank a reel as a righty.

I’m a righty and reel righty with casting gear but lefty for spinning.  Lefty casting reels feel weird but not spinning. Go figure.

I just got a 2500. So far I like what I see. Smooth, quiet and light. The only thing I miss is the anti-reverse switch. Something I'll have to get used to.

I'm hoping to make a few casts tomorrow. It looks like the last day before the big cold front hits the area.

I'm same way. I think most of my friends are this way as well. Just how I was brought up.

Seems to make sense I think. If you're left handed you want the pole in your left hand right? Or do I have it wrong. My casting reel is the same way though.

Well, all spooled up and no where to go here in Maine.

I'm pretty sure Vanford 1000 size and up are all equipped with worm shaft oscillation system with the exemption of the 500, not sure why. Maybe because of its size, no room for a worm shaft or the spool height to short.

I would hope so - since my Miravel has the worm gear at $100 less retail.

Miravel schematic is not yet available at Shimano's website or at least I can't find it, I could be wrong but I think its still has the transverse cam just by looking at its line lay on the spool and where it's position in the Shimano's line up. Ultegra and up are all worm shaft as far as I know.

Nothing wrong with the transverse cam though.

Well, it's advertised as having SilentDrive - which says 'Worm Shaft'...I'll look at the schematic I got with my 2500 and maybe even take the cover off.

Spheros SW is basically a Nasci with a worm shaft or kind of like an old stradic but ppl wont listen ...

In either case, the Vanford is a great, light reel

I agree 100 percent. I have two of them in 3000 size and I'm not sure why they're underrated for an aluminum body reel. They're awesome for its price.

Spool cup size is a major factor.
