jdw174 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Took the rig in for what turned out to be a long overdue visit. Memory not what it was, I thought it had only been a couple of years when it was actually five ! First thing I noticed that the sign that used to say "Labor $65/hr" now read "Labor $85/hr, 1/2hr minimum". Oh boy..... Second thing I noticed was the lack of fancy rigs. There were two new Z521's on the floor, along with a Triton 18XS. Only glass rig outside was a Ranger 188. Spoke with one of the salespeople and he said that sales of glass rigs was way down. "Look at that one there (indicated the 521". What do you think it goes for?" I said $55K....he said $60K. "How many people can afford to walk in and plunk down the money for a rig like that?" He also said that people who used to swap every two years are now going to every 3 or 4. Even tin boats are $20K or better, although he did say that tin boat sales were pretty fair. After looking around and knowing the prices, that 12 yr old Triton of mine looks better and better. Recent upgrades in electronics and TM and I reckon I'm good for quite a spell. Had the lower unit oil changed, compression check, replaced 6 plugs, filled the oil reservoir, new battery strap, two more bolts added to the TM mount, and a test run in the tank. Total bill came to $339. It beat the crap out of $60K Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 8, 2011 Super User Posted January 8, 2011 Went to the Houston boat show Friday afternoon. Tons of fancy rigs and a couple that interested me(For a moment). "Special Boat show Price" Basscat $68,798.00 Skeeter $71,468.00 Triton $65,475.00 Legend $69,895.00 Legend $46,786.00 This was a demo with 60 hours on it. Don't forget taxes and dealer prep... Didn't even walk around to the front of any Rangers to check out the "Special Boat Show Price". In fact, i don't even remember seeing any Rangers or Champions there. Could have just missed them. Going back at 2:00 today with the wife. Maybe she will feel sorry for me and buy me one. Right! Quote
Super User 5bass Posted January 8, 2011 Super User Posted January 8, 2011 Jack, be sure to go by the Sterling (Gambler) booth and check out that new center console. It's a bad azzz boat, plus they have the black dual console there. Thats the one I want. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 8, 2011 Super User Posted January 8, 2011 Those prices make me all the happier that I settled for an inferior Nitro Z7. Bought it brand new, 2010, from the BPS floor, trailer with brakes and a 150 hp Merc that scoots it along at 58.2 mph on the GPS not the 65 the speedo reads. Complete delivered price because it had a slight hollow above the waterline just ahead of the stern on the starboard side, of 19,300 dollars. Interesting thing about that hollow, in the heat of the summer, and jostling on the trailer and the water, most of that hollow straightened out. Even if it hadn't, I wouldn't care. The price was lower than the aluminum tournament v-18 with a 90hp Merc, and about the same as their Bass Tracker Pro Team 190. Quote

No more Champions. They merged with Stratos and now Stratos has a "Stratos Champion Elite" series out now. Ginmar is still falling apart. Quote

No salesman around so no idea the price. Gaurantee you two things: Beautiful and very expensive. Quote
R520dvx Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Jim I guess that makes the labor rate for that electronics installation look pretty good !! Hope it's still working well for you. Quote

Regarding the Optimax, you may be correct. But the Nitros they had on the floor with them showed it as an extra cost option. Quote
Carrington Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 due to the prices im loving my 1996 nitro 170tf with a 115hp engine. The boat hits 57mph with me in it and thats good enough for me for what the boat cost. Quote
