Military Service Record

Last Friday my middle brother pasted away, he was a Vietnam veteran, US Army.

 

Like many war veterans they didn't take a lot about their time in country. I'm trying to find a little bit about he's service records but every website I've tried are total BS.

 

Any suggestions? ?

I've got a first cousin who's a Colonel in the Air Force.  I'll see him next week.  I ask him if he knows anyway to get your brothers records.

Your brother was a Hero.

I have THE info that will definitely help you out.

We've used it successfully several times over the years for family & friends.

Give me a few to gather it up and I'll post it here.

 This should help you out @Catt

Helps if you have your brother's service number which may or might not be the same as his social security number -  but it is NOT NEEDED.

Either way this information will be on his DD214 form if you have it.

They will send you a complete set of all of your brothers, ribbons, medals & badges.

No charge

What kind of info does this provide? I’ve always wondered about my Grandpa’s time during WWII. All I know is he fought in New Guinea. I have his and his brother’s dog tags, would their service numbers be on them?

Not an expert on this deal.

Only way to know for sure is to call and find out.

@12poundbass I found my Dad's service records for WW2 on the US Navy's websites.

 

For some reason many Vietnam records are harder to come by.

In the late 1960's, the Army stopped assigning service numbers.  For those who already had one and all new recruits, their social security numbers became their service numbers.  This was done sometime in 1968 or 1969;  I experienced the changeover.

Catt, I'm sorry to hear about your brother. My older brother was a Vietnam vet also. He passed on in 2008. He taught me a lot about fishing when I was young, in the mid 1960s.

My wife was actually able to Google search my father's war history by using his full name in the search engine...... perhaps a unique name. Idk
