Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 18, 2022 Super User Posted December 18, 2022 B-I-L says bass aren't biting well due to the high water. What would be some good baits to try in the Deland area? Also it seems I brought the cold weather in Pennsy with me when I came to Florida. Been cold every since the wife and I arrived. We went out Thursday. Both of us stuck with 10.5 inch unweighted ribbontail worms in Junebug. I caught 4 and B-I-L caught 5, but I lost one when I got snagged before I could land it. Must not have been hooked very well. I got lucky and caught the largest, but nothing to brag about at around 2 pounds. We didn't leave until after noon and stopped around 4. Had planned on leaving when it warmed up at 10, but at 10 it was still heavy coat temps. On a side note, the reason I stuck with one lure was because I was down to one casting rod (a 7' MHF). My wife's youngest brother is a drug addict and is a thief to support the addiction. The tip on the only spinning rod I keep in Florida was broken. He stole 6 of my casting rods. Guess I should feel blessed that he left me one to fish with. Had I known ahead of time, I would have shipped a few down. I lost a few hundred dollars, but he has stolen thousands from his oldest brother. Pretty d**n sad. Quote
crypt Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 traps are a go to bait.hard jerk baits, jigs. also try a buzz bait, sounds weird but it can work. when the water gets high fish scatter so keep moving until you find some.try changing speeds and also dead sticking a worm will work. 1 Quote
GRiver Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 New 2BC4Bass I live north of Deland, north end of Lake George. You all did better than me……total skunk. I tried fishing the flooded areas, could buy a bite, I was most.y pitching and flipping in flooded tree areas, nothing. Quote

Better luck next time. We are purchasing a place in Lake Helen Villa. Won't be able to fish as much as I'd like, but will be fishing more often than I have the past 4 years. Wife has severe Alzheimer's Disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. However, I will have more help taking care of her down here. Quote

Relatives stole a bunch of my stuff too for the same reason , including my favorite surf fishing combo that I’d had for 30+ years. At least they have started getting better from where they were 2 years ago… Culprit worms and UV Speed worms have been working best for me lately. June bug and black with blue tail have been the best colors…fished as slow as possible… 1 Quote
