Rolltide09 Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 A buddy of mine has a Alumacraft 10' Jon Boat with Minn Kota transom mount trolling motor, batteries and two clamp on seats. Trolling motor, batteries and seats are brand new and the boat is in good shape. He wants $150 for the setup. Is this a decent deal? I fish ponds 50 acres and smaller (mostly 2-10 acres without boat ramps) and was actually looking for a 12-14' but ran up on this. Kind of afraid to fish in the 10' because I am 6'2" 220lbs. I had been using a Hobie Pro Angler until it was stolen last week. What do yall think? Yes or No? Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted December 18, 2010 Super User Posted December 18, 2010 Sounds like a reasonable price. Have the batteries checked. An interstate battery dealer will do it at no cost. Some of the auto parts stores will also test at no charge. While you are a big guy, balance the boat by placing the movable weight forward in the boat. Place the batteries as far forward as possible. You can extend the cables if necessary. I believe you'll need 6 gauge wire to handle the load the motor will draw. Quote
Rolltide09 Posted December 18, 2010 Author Posted December 18, 2010 The trolling motor, batteries and seats were purchased last month when we were at BP. He has ran into some financial problems and has to sell it. I just hope it isnt a waist and isnt hard to fish from. Really would like another Hobie but cant afford that right now Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 18, 2010 Super User Posted December 18, 2010 I know he's your buddy but from the way you're describing it you could give him the buck fifty and sell it for more. Then buy yourself a Hobie. Quote
SeanW Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Id buy it and I own a bass boat that 1 yr old. Im also 6'4, Id fish out of it no problem. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted December 18, 2010 Super User Posted December 18, 2010 Short of that thing being full of leaks, that sounds like a pretty good deal to me. If the batteries and TM are good, that alone would run you over 150 bucks. Quote
DaveSurfs Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I gotta go along w/ Eric. There's gotta be $150 in batteries and trolling motor alone. Give him the cash, wait for the 1st warm early spring weekend, put that puppy on Craig's List, double your money and get another Hobie! 8-) Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted December 20, 2010 Super User Posted December 20, 2010 if it's not falling apart, thats a super deal. scoop it up! Quote
backwater4 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 For $150 it's a steal. Batteries cost $75-$100 ea. A used trolling motor is worth at least $50-$100, plus all the rest and the boat. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 21, 2010 Super User Posted December 21, 2010 For reference, in the Bass Pro Shops catalog, a 10' riveted jon boat is $469.00. If I was in your situation with a buddy, I would give him at least $200 and still feel like I stole it. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted December 21, 2010 Super User Posted December 21, 2010 If you don't I have a neighbor that will over $400 Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 7, 2011 Super User Posted January 7, 2011 Buy it. Even if the boat leaks you can piece it out and make money. Question? Title available for the boat? Quote
Super User Shane J Posted January 7, 2011 Super User Posted January 7, 2011 That's a steal all day long. I paid $460 for my 10' jon boat with nothing included. Heck, the scrap aluminum is worth more than that! Quote
