Super User king fisher Posted December 24, 2022 Super User Posted December 24, 2022 Winter is my busy season at work. I don't have time for bass fishing, but at least I am on the water. I sure wish I had some time off from work to fly north for some ice fishing. 4 1 3 Quote

What boat do you fish out of? Love Sportfishermans Was a deck hand growing up. Catching the fish is a blast, dealing with the boat when the day is over will make you yearn for a cane pole, a bucket of worms, and some bream. 1 Quote
ScottW Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 Got some ice forming on the deep end of the pond here close to the bank. However, the lone duck and goose are still braving the extreme cold temps. Go figure. Hands are healing nicely but not to the point that I’ll try casting anytime soon. Maybe next week if the temps rise enough. In the meantime I’m working my fingers (PT) and helping my daughter troubleshoot some code in her husband’s business website. He’s a dentist so it needs to be sorted out asap. Aside from that working on getting some more of this weight off. 3 Quote

I am captain of a private 65 foot sport fisher home port is Puerto Vallarta. I don't have the grueling schedule of a charter boat captain, but maintenance on a private yacht is definitely a full time job. 4 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted December 24, 2022 Super User Posted December 24, 2022 Transition time for me... Lund bass boat is tucked in for the winter in Minneapolis - now its off to FLA to the kayak: Transfer tackle to Blackpak Pro storage pack Pack up rods/reels for mostly freshwater and some salt Get to destination next week and mount Livescope + First local tournament on Jan 7, another in Feb and March Friend of mine from MN has a place on Marco and new Skeeter bay boat, fish some Reds, Grouper, Snook hopefully. Toying with Bassmaster Kayak series in Guntersville, Hartwell even though I've never fished either and would get my keester kicked, it'd be for the experience. Return May 1 for some white bass before the official open water season starts again in MN. 3 Quote

Just shows how special the Largemouth Bass is, you're likely catching Billfish on the reg, yet you are on a Bass fishing forum, not the Hulltruth or something ? Bass are my favorite thing to fish for, but nothing compares to bluewater saltwater fishing for a variety of reasons. 1 Quote

I have family visiting that week and may take a pass and just focus on Hartwell. Gotta learn that lake, any suggestions for maps, discussions, videos? (other than of course BR!) Quote

I just went one time for the bassmaster classic last year and took a canoe. No clue about anything and I caught 7 pretty easy in a short session. Spotted bass have a wonderful habit of attacking fishing lures granted, guntersville is also loaded with spots nowadays that most people don’t target. It’s the biggest tournament lake in the US, everyone wants big LM 1 Quote

We sold the house a couple years ago, and are just renting as my wife continues to recover from health stuff. One of my son's apartment lease is up, so he will move in for 4 months to save some cash. Part of his rent is to wax and polish my Lund lol. 2 1 Quote

Bass Rutten Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 I’ve been using my off season this year to upgrade my Illinois lakes to Florida lakes, I have a feeling it’s going to work out just fine. 3 Quote
Jmontgomery87 Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 (edited) Well I checked a few local strip pits that had no ice at all last weekend but they were completely iced over except for one little spot by a dam. I pitched a drop shot in there a few times but the cold got to me after about 20 minutes and I headed home. Sorry for the picture quality. The forum only allows me 1.46mb per post. Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted December 24, 2022 Super User Posted December 24, 2022 It's been so cold these last two days, I'm reminded once again that I simply couldn't exist much farther north. I already believed in Seasonal Affective Disorder because we still have a true winter in central Alabama and I hate it lol, but now that I'm learning about how many of you fellow die hard Bassers have to shut down during the winters, I see there are levels to that game. That said, lots of people oddly love the winter, snow, etc. To those who don't though, I can empathize with the darkness that northern winters must be like. 10-20 temps ain't nothing for most of you Yanks, but again I'd rather be homeless in FL or CA than experience much more of what we are experiencing ? 1 Quote

I hope to get five in Harris Lake is my favorite lake in N.C. winter fishing is tuff there as it is in every lake. Crappie are stacked up catch them with jigs and minnows down deep, plan on keeping them, they die when you yank them up that fast from the deep. Bass fishing is a hit or miss at the time you're going but enjoy the trip! Quote
Woody B Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 I can't imagine not being able to fish for months. Fishing every week actually helps me keep the bait monkey at bay. I normally do my maintenance during the week after work, and fish on the weekend. This is the first weekend I haven't fished since I got my boat last December. I won't be able to go this Saturday due to a family gathering (my Dad's 88th birthday). I'll be back on a lake somewhere Jan 1. I would have been fishing in the 8 degree heat last weekend but had Christmas gatherings during the warm part of the day both days. Quote

I have certainly never taken a month off, except maybe when I was in grade school or something and couldn’t drive. 8° can be hard on your boat motor, I like to fish off the bank if it’s that bad.
