Super User DitchPanda Posted December 15, 2022 Super User Posted December 15, 2022 Who on here uses one? What do you use it for? What brand do you like? Last but not least...what liquid do you use in it? 1 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted December 15, 2022 Super User Posted December 15, 2022 i bought a cheapie on amazon when I thought I was going to do my own reel maintenance and pull bearings. I never did that, but we use the cleaner all the time for my wife's jewelry and it works great. Just water. 1 Quote
PourMyOwn Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 I use one quite a bit for reels and carburetors. I use hot water. It's a lot more efficient to put boiling water in there than to wait for the heating element in the ultrasonic to heat the water...and mine is also an Amazon special. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted December 17, 2022 Author Super User Posted December 17, 2022 My buddy has a hornady one and man does that get a reel clean. He's done several spinning reels for me and they are like new when they come out of there. I may look to pick a cheap one up. Quote
GTN-NY Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 I always forget that I have a cheap amazon one. I got it to clean empty ammo casings but it’s to small Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted December 17, 2022 Super User Posted December 17, 2022 I have a Hornady one I use it for reloading and gun parts that fit in it. I use the Hornady solution mixed with distilled water like it calls for. 1 Quote
txchaser Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 When you get around to cleaning bearings with it... don't uhh, try to fill the whole container with acetone. There's a lot of plastic in there. Acetone+plastic is like Elaztech in a ziplock full of senkos. Apparently I should have been filling it almost up with water, then dropping a shot glass full of acetone in the water. 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted December 18, 2022 Super User Posted December 18, 2022 I have a Hornady also and fill it with water and use actone in a small shot glass for bearings and metal gears. Quote
GTN-NY Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 What liquid do you recommend for gun parts? Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted December 19, 2022 Super User Posted December 19, 2022 I use a mixture of Simple Green and water in the tank for cleaning most everything and acetone in a small jar for bearings. Mine is one of the rectangular ones sold on Ebay that was about $100, I don't know what brand it is but it was well worth the money. 1 Quote
