I’ve got one under the tree. It’s the first gen model with the bigger knobs on the handle. Apparently got the last one on clearance for $199. I typically fish Daiwa but figured I’d give it a try for $200 off. Went back to order another but the link was gone.
In winding it a feel times it feels smooth and quiet. Im pairing it with a Phenix MX rod that has some purple hues in it. Felt pretty good on the rod for the minute I had it on there.

Thats a deal. I like my gen 1. I also just found a new Hypermag for $167.
Some of these clearance deals right now are crazy. Midway was selling the Custom Pros for $259 with a $150 gift card back with midway

I guess ill buy a gen 2 in the spring.

I’m not particularly sold on the big knobs and may see if I can get replacement gen 2 knobs for it. I’m going to have to give it a chance first, I may end up liking them.
This will be my first Lews. I have been really looking at them lately though.
These clearance deals are crazy, just shows us they can be sold cheaper!!

I hated the knobs at first but got used to them fairly quick. I would suggest the lucas oil speed brake for the brake ring, keeps mine consistently slinging with ease.

If I get enough gift certificates I'll get the 499$ version.

It will be interesting if these are a flop or not given their price point vs competition at the same price range .      Have my eye on the elite ti but not until some decent reviews come out

I’m a Lew’s fan and have no doubt it’s a great reel, but unless they go on sale for $200 or so, I’ll never own one. To much $$ for me.

Reviews on the previous model were great.

I have a spinning Ti-Pro rod and I love it, found it on sale at Midway super nice rod, love the handle, color, and the way it handles heavy bass.  I'm sure the bait caster version is just as nice.  I bought a 7' Med has lots of backbone.  As far as the reel goes it's soposed to be their best reel yet, I'd buy it if I can get it on sale.  400 bucks for any reel is high, Japan reels can be bought for way less than that.  If you have the money you should go for it!

I have 2 Custom Pros I got on sale. Great reels. Very similar to the Custom Lite.

3 Tournament Pros and 2 Team Lews Lite.

Love ‘em all, but the Custom Pros are are a cut above.

So I started this thread in December and finally got one.
Initial impression is that I dont know if it is a worthy upgrade from the gen 1. If I decide to keep, ill spend some time with it and report back.

FYI same braking system as Gen 1

The new handles are nice and I dont see them being a problem. I also dont see them as a notable improvement over Gen1

I actually like the brake adjustment on Gen 1. New dial is a little bit tougher to get to and feels fragile.

That $499 version gets my juices flowing. But I’ll never own one.

Looks cool, but I'll be interested in a Lew's flagship when they finally add a bottom pinion support bearing in their reels, as shimano and daiwa have done for 10+ years to make retrieve smoother under load. Even Lew's new $499 flagship still comes with a bushing, not a bearing, for a second pinion support.

And for those reasons, I'm out. ?

Nope. The second bearing is shared with the spool. The bushing is non-contact and is there only to support the pinion when the spool is removed.

I have the Gen 1 and extremely happy with it. I have never missed the pinion support bearing even when landing a 9+ pound Channel Cat that took my kayak for a ride down river. The retrieve was fine even under that load.

That being said I would have bet money the new Gen would have the P2 support bearing. I am extremely disappointed their flagship reel doesn’t have it. I understand why the Gen 1 didn’t as no Lew’s reels did at the time. Now most of their reels from the LFS up have the support bearing.

It does. Congratulations, you're rich.
