Mike Leach was an excellent football coach and teacher and he turned around the programs at Texas Tech, Washington State, and Mississippi State.

He had a sensational sense of humor, and usually would not talk football but about anything else that came to his mind when interviewed.

He had a law degree and loved to read so he was highly educated.

Coach Leach was on ESPN College Sports network with the Pony for about two years between the Texas Tech and Washington State gigs, and he had a great grasp and insight into football and the world.

Here is what the LSU Sports Blog published this morning about Mike Leach:

And on a somber note, our prayers go out to the family of Mike Leach and the Mississippi State community. Coach Leach suffered what the school said were complications from a heart issue and passed away yesterday at 61. LSU released a statement on his passing: “Mike Leach transformed college football forever. He was an innovator and a visionary whose authenticity and love for the game helped elevate the sport. He made an immeasurable impact on countless coaches, student-athletes, and fans. We celebrate his legacy, mourn his loss, and send our prayers and condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Such as shame to lose him at an early age.

RIP coach.

May be a black-and-white image of 1 person and text that says 'My condolences to Mike Leach's wife, kids, grandkids, the Mississippi State team and the Starkville community. We have lost the most transformationa mind football my generation and the best press conferences you will ever google More than that, we lost an honest, caring and committed father, husband, grandfather and coach. The game forever changed because of his work, and Mike' legacy will live on forever through the people he impacted. Rest Peace, Mike. -Buua LSU kuy FOOTBALL'

As a alumnus of Miss State and a long time fan, this really saddens my heart. When the news first broke of his medical emergency on Sunday, we held out hope that he would recover to be back on the sidelines next season.

Just so so sad. He was so fun & entertaining to watch. And his half time & post game interviews and press conferences were quite hilarious at times. Plus, not to mention the MSU offense was setting all kinds of records the past couple seasons.

College football lost a true national treasure in my opinion. ?☹️

I'm a diehard TN Vols fan but for some reason, having never stepped foot on the campus, I've have always liked MSU too. Praying for the Leach family and the MSU family. RIP Coach Leach, you were definitely one of a kind.

Just awful, I feel so sorry for his family.   He was perhaps the only HC I liked and thought wasn't a scumbag.

He was super funny too, I loved his Mascot press conference.  RIP Pirate, you were a real one.

X2. He was speaking to the AD about stepping down after next season due to his medical issues per Paul Finenbaum.

Loved him on the ESPNU college football show. He was outstanding.

A friend and fellow Bulldawg sent me this article that’s a quick 2 minute read. Just goes to show you what a great human being Mike Leach was. It’s seriously a huge loss to all of college football.
