Aaron Stelmach Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Currently I am in the market for a higher end g.loomis rod for “finessy” smallmouth applications (Grubs, Tubes, small jigs etc) I am pretty positive I am going to be purchasing an 852s JWR, but I don’t know whether to spending the extra cash on the NRX would be worth it as opposed to the GLX. Is there a big difference in sensitivity between the lines that justify the price increase on the NRX? Thanks for your help guys! ?? Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted December 14, 2022 Super User Posted December 14, 2022 Can't say there's a "big" difference, but I will say if both of those are in your acceptable budget you'll eventually regret it if you don't go with the NRX+. The 852 is one of the most versatile sticks you'll ever find and it's a joy to fish with. Also, welcome to the boards! 1 Quote

Never tried a GLX but I do have a 852S and it's my favorite spinning rod I have. Find the right shop you can get NRX for close(or below) GLX price so it doesn't hurt as much when you fill that lineup with them?. Quote

thunderblack Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 I wouldn't veer from the GLX. They are very very close in sensitivity. I have owned both. I'm shocked GLX doesn't get more praise. I like the guides better than NRX and also the fact they had more Fast options but now that the NRX plus is out that is not true. Good luck with the hunt! Quote

Well, I own several GLX, St. Croix, Rainshadow and Megabass. I think the technology has surpassed my ability to distinguish the subtle differences. In my hands the GLX is as sensitive as I can "feel". 1 Quote
RDB Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 FYI @Aaron Stelmach …the largest G. Loomis dealer in the US has a used NRX+ 852s in excellent condition for sale for $424. I have purchased several excellent condition NRX rods from them over the years and I couldn’t tell that they had ever been used. DM me if you need more info. 1 Quote
