I have the kestrel elite and I'm not having overbraking problems. I cleaned the bearings with isopropyl alcohol, since they were greased and set it in the manner daiwa call ''zero-adjust''. I casted a 2.2g lure beyond the 20m limit, using it with my centron lite. Quote

Tatulatard Posted December 18, 2022 Author Posted December 18, 2022 Sort of a related question. If the carbon xcs is a "throw away steez ct" in that it is tiny and super light but also super cheap, then what is the flippin stick version of that? What's the crazy light weight 7'3" or longer rod for $100 or under? Does that even exist? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 18, 2022 Super User Posted December 18, 2022 I am surprised there is so much interest in a $50 reel. Quote

I could have the put lure in the beach, but I was using a short 1.45m Trout rod. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 18, 2022 Super User Posted December 18, 2022 Just checked the weather and Phantoms are advertised on a side panel for 51 bucks . I guess I'll have four of them now . Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted December 19, 2022 Super User Posted December 19, 2022 I haven't used them and won't comment on their quality. But I've learned over the years you generally get longer service out of metal frame reels, especially if you abuse them. Just my $0.02. Quote

They have a couple of models. They make the ardent reels and some piscifun reels also use haibo. I think the piscifun saex, thunder and alloy m are all haibos. If you like your saex elite then you might want to check them out. 1 1 Quote

I appreciate the heads up. I could tell the Saex Elite and Ardent Elite are the same. I would definitely pick up another Saex Elite if I can find it at what I consider a good price. Just checked and they have them for $98.00 with a bfs spool included. 1 Quote
Tatulatard Posted April 26, 2023 Author Posted April 26, 2023 I can provide some on the water feedback on the alloy m after two trips. Most will like the reel but I'm not impressed but not disappointed either. Its light weight and has a long handle but that's due to the carbon fiber handle and eva knobs. A lews lfs with the same $9 aliexpress handle would weigh the same. It palms very well with a 32mm spool keeping the frame height down. Maybe it's a better caster of light baits with that light weight spool but I'm casting and skipping a 3/8 oz jig and find the magnets to be very weak. On a normal distance cast on max brake setting I get some fluff as the spool spins faster than the 15 lbs basix can get out of its own way. I have this same experience with my centrifugal reels and flouro which is why I don't use flouro above 12 lbs on any reel with fast and free braking profile. It's not that the reel is a bad caster just that what I am seeing from the braking profile is not what I expect from a magnetic brake reel with a billion magnets in the side plate. Skipping control is also very poor requiring me to run considerable spool tension. I've used reels with effectively non functional mag brakes due to cheap weak magnets and this reel is not like that but I do believe it is using a large number of weaker magnets by design either as a cost cutting measure or to purposefully create this faster magnetic braking profile. I'm going to switch to braid and see how the reel performs. It think it will get out of its own way better and reduce the rotating mass of the spool when skipping to offer more control. I got mine reel for $66 but at the $89 they want for it on amazon I don't know. At the amazon price it's hard not to compare to the lews lfs. 1 Quote

I run 30lb braid on mine and it cast well with the brake dial in the middle and spool with a tiny amount of side to side play. It's a great reel for fishing off my Paddle board where there's risk of losing my combo but that's about all I use it for. 1 Quote
