Gilbo Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Here in Southeastern Louisiana our cold weather is probably wished for in other parts of the US. We have a cold front approaching and I’d like to know if there are any info on fishing a cold front for Large Mouth Bass. I’m asking for a little help here. Thank y’all 1 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 12, 2022 Global Moderator Posted December 12, 2022 I would just fish normally , then you can blame the cold front if it goes poorly. This is a time honored practice 3 1 3 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 13, 2022 Global Moderator Posted December 13, 2022 Before and during the cold front passing are usually active feeding periods. It's when the front has passed that the bite gets tough. I'd go and start out looking for active fish. 6 1 Quote

It's when the front has passed that the bite gets tough. Almost every season, my best outings of the entire season are right before there is a massive weather change (low pressure) coming in. I do not fish in the "winter" up here in MN, but in the summer time, these fronts often trigger an aggressive response from fish. Put away the finesse crap and fire off some fast moving lures. They usually get destroyed. After the front, I usually don't even try. I'd rather wait until conditions improve. 3 Quote
softwateronly Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 A few times for me, the very first active fish after a cold front were my biggest fish of the day/week. This seems most true in cold water periods. If it’s gonna be slow, I’m gonna put in time looking for the biggest bass. scott Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted December 13, 2022 Super User Posted December 13, 2022 I think fishing before any front comes in ( warm or cold) can be good. 1 Quote

OP SE Louisiana weather and lake fish patterns are not that much different than here in SW Florida. A day or 2 before is usually the best depending on the strength of the front and expected temperature swings. After it passes just stay home for 2 Mike 2 Quote

RHuff Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Start shallow and if you are catching smaller fish up shallow the bigger bass are just a little bit deeper… 8-10ft or 12-ft range Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 14, 2022 Super User Posted December 14, 2022 The current seasonal period is the cold water winter period when cold weather impacts water temps do to cold night temps. Understanding weather fronts consider a cold “front” is actually a low pressure “backend”. The low pressure front is associated with a positive weather change whereas a cold front is generally a negative time to bass fish. Add colder windy weather to already cold water period and bass fishing gets difficult. Tom 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 14, 2022 Super User Posted December 14, 2022 While I agree with the above recommendations being from South West Louisiana I have to ask. Are you fishing areas that are tidal effected? Tidal waters changes things quite a bit. Quote

Even a summer rain front pushing through will turn on the bite. We’ve got a cold front coming ( well a cold front of Florida….. 65/40’s at night) in on the 15-16th with rain too. Might try to go out today, beat the rain. I’ll fish in the rain in the summer but not when it’s cold. I know …I know…..before all the northern people get on me, that’s cold for here. Hahaha 1 Quote
