Anyone have experience with both of these in the IMX or NRX line? (Or any gloomis line for that matter). I assume the MBR is just in between CBR and JWR but just not sure. Is the mbr real versatile, so if you are just going to carry one rod. but not great at any single  technique.  I carry lots of rods so I wonder ifm using treble hooks…just better to go with CBR. Thanks

I have few rods of each line and the MBR rods would not be my first choice for crankbaits but the shorter 783 makes for a nice jerkbait rod. To me the taper of the rods does not go well with setting the hooks on cranks.

I also have the two rods in the IMX Pro CBR line and they are really good but I tend to like the Legend Glass rods from St. Croix and the new Legend Tournament crankbait rods. The 903 CBR I have, is great for shallow running square bills and chatter baits. I just picked up the 866 CBR Deep Flex as well. I am still trying to figure this rod out but my first impression is that it is going to be a great deep running crankbait rod.

With all that said, the MBR rods are the most versatile of the bunch. If I was going to carry just one rod in the Loomis line, either the 783C or the 843C would be my choice.

If you are looking for "the" most versatile rod, you might look at the Megabass P5 Super Destroyer. This rod can do it all and it's fun to fish. Another one from Megabass that excels at versatility is the Valkyrie line of rods. They are a glass composite. Some are a little heavier but are designed to fish a large variety of baits.

Thanks! Yeh I sold my legend glass…loved the action but just couldn’t get past the weight and thickness.
I guess I’m just trying to figure out if there’s any technique that the MBR  does better than either a CBR or a JWR could do. I’m not looking for a do-all rod…I’m looking to find the best rod for specific techniques

Where it gets confusing is when you see the 855 cbr is a 7'1"H/Fast.  CBR power ratings are also a little different.  That 866 deep flex is one I'd like to own.  I have the 864, and it's great.

So the CBR line is crankbait specific, especially the Deep Flex. The regular line has a moderate fast taper. I like the 903C I have for chatterbaits and squarbills but nothing else. I look at the MBR line as a softer jig and worm series. It's great with jigs, some topwater, big tubes, paddle tail swimbaits, and Texas Rigged soft plastic. The JWR is just that to me, jigs and worms, with the exception of the 2 power rods. They seem softer and work well for lightweight plastic like a shakeyhead or a Damiki Rig. I use the other JWR rods I have for jigs and worms when I want a quick hook set.  They tend to be better at short strikes or when a bass just lightly slurps a bait.

A few rods to note in the NRX+ line.... I like the 904C MBR for jigs, the 873C CCR is great for jigs as well but I like oddly for spinnerbaits and the 895C JWR (still new to me) has just started to be my flip/pitch/heavy cover/punching rod. Lots of power and it's really sensitive for a big rod.

the 852c JWR is also a killer 1/4oz minimax chatterbait rod

Mbr do chatterbaits well. A nice compromise between hook setting power and parabolic action to keep the fish pinned. I prefer the 844 but a lot of people like the 843. Another thing maybe would be walking topwater. The cbr rods are just too noodly for that. But overall the mbr actions are a lot closer to the jwr than the cbr.

Ok great thanks. So your preferred chatterbait rod is the 844mbr?

I am all in for MBR, And I have whole line up. because they are able to do all. Very sensitive and capable of casting wide range of lure weight and same time have great back bone if you get to covers or oversized fish. I use 903 for smaller chatter bait and spinners, also use 844MBR for 2x hook chaterbaits  or spinners.

As was said the CBR is designed to be a crankbait rod they have a parabolic action. I have thrown little poppers on the 843 cbr but it's a soft rod.

The MBR is Mag Bass rod and it's more of an all-purpose action. jigs, worm's spinnerbaits and bigger topwater.

The JWR is jig and worm rod which has the fastest actions.

Ha...I'm sure in many eyes I've sold lots of great rods.  But I didn't like it...and I love the rod I replaced it with.  To each their own...

Thank you for your feedback!  Do you fish in places where you only carry a few rods, or do you just love having the mbr rods and have them mixed in with other rods?
