I dont, I always give up locations and lures that I have good luck with, because I dont believe to keep secret.

Everyone who knows me knows what I use 90% of the time everywhere, coast to coast, rivers, lakes, creeks and ponds.

I don’t get to discuss fishing with folks other than here. A stream and pond fisherman’s sessions are seldom known to anyone. I do ramble on to the wife but she isn’t really listening ?

I live a lake version of this life!

Not a secret any more, other than using them how Ned instructed ? which no one seems to do these days.

Isn't this the truth?  Many people use too heavy of a jig and too big of a hook.  Ned stresses 1/16 oz and a #4 hook.  I'll be honest, I don't use all of his retrieves and probably should experiment with them more.

The double wacky rig. My guess it will catch on eventually. I saw I guy using it and it was just bizarre. That's all of it I will share at this time....?

2  jigheads about 12-18" apart wearing mister twister grubs was one of my main bass attacks when I was a young kid.  Just reeled it in steady.  I ought to try it with 2.8" swimmers.

I've heard really good things about a double fluke rig but have yet to try it.

Sure you are not thinking of the Donkey Rig? The set up I am thinking of started in saltwater fishing when I was a kid like 35+ years ago. I hadn't seen anybody use it ever besides me until I saw one random guy fishing it over the summer.

I've heard of it...never done it.  @FishTank - I didn't know it had a name.  I'm also speaking of about 34yrs ago, when I was 10.  It caught everything that swam.

I don’t keep secrets anymore. Used to when younger but now I share with those that want to listen.  What I’ve found is most don’t, listen that is. They just keep doing what they do with the same results.
I tend to throw a lot of different lures until I find something they like. I used to stick with certain baits and try to force feed the bass but realized you can’t do that a long time ago.

For largemouth (which, lately, I do little of), I mostly just fish stickbaits, buzzbaits, walking baits, Ned rigs, and the occasional dropshot. For smallmouth, I’m a lot more diverse, but hardly encounter anyone while fishing. In both situations, I throw relatively simple baits. There’s really not much to give away beyond common sense.

With river smallmouth, it’s often more about location, retrieve, and broad presentation than specific baits. I might be wading with my friends using the exact same bait as them and casting to the same locations. I still get more bites than them just because of my technique. For that reason, I would happily give information to anyone who needed it. I could show someone the exact bait and locations, and they’d still only catch a few

3/16 Siebertoutdoors.com Zenith shakey head tipped with a Zoom 4" Dead Ringer.

I don't know that it's a secret other than I don't see anyone throwing one.

That’s cuz you can’t see me over them tall mtns……….

I throw other things for no reason, dead ringer is my favorite and always does better than any other lure. Not much a secret tho, they been on the market near 50 years and I post pics of them on here all the time

No, don’t pay those collector prices. You can get a 5-Pak from Buck’s online store for about $35 plus shipping, or wait and buy a group of used ones when they get posted. They usually average about $5-$6 a piece. Sometimes you can pick them up cheap at garage sales.

I had good luck in 2022 with a Senko with a bright yellow tip. I kept trying one-color Senkos, but I kept returning to the yellow tipped ones because they're what the bass wanted,

I've already shared in other threads how much Maine bass like a Mepps #3 with a brass blade and bare hook, but I'll say it again: They love it! The smallmouth too.

I've got a ton of secret lures and rigs.

One is the Minnow Chaser.  It's a crappie jig with a larger swimbait tied on an 18" leader that follows it.  It's an excellent way to start a conga line of fish.

Another is the Jig Shot.  It's a drop shot with a jig instead of a traditional weight.  Allows you to catch double the brush.

Then there's the Carolina Crankbait.  A Carolina rig with a crankbait instead of a worm.  Good for getting smaller crankbaits down deeper and allowing them to suspend.  Less good for catching bass.

And don't forget the Jizard.  The football or structure jig with a lizard trailer.  Cut the head off a 5" lizard before rigging.  It catches bass almost as effectively as a jig with a rage bug trailer.

Also the Goose Turd.  It's T-rigged soft plastic craw that's lost most or all of its legs and pinchers, but still somehow catches fish.  Probably my most effective "secret lure".

And last is the Texas Rigged, One Knocker Fluke.  Tie a bullet weight, a glass bead, and an EWG hook and rig up the fluke weedless.  Then put a bobber stopper about an inch in front of the weight and twitch it back to you.  The clicking sound of the glass bead lets the bass know you're a little more sophisticated than the average angler.

Now it may seem like these are all jokes.  But I have literally caught at least one fish on each of them.  So I can vouch that they all CAN work.  Effectiveness not guaranteed.

I have a whole set that was given to my son. They have never been wet but I'm going to try them someday.

A lot of the anglers that I run into seem to only use the latest advertised bait.  They don't believe me when I tell I'm using a bait that has been around for 20 or 30 years.

I’m a bucket mouth usually. But if someone gives me a tip then I’ll keep it to myself.

A few years ago a few of us were sharing Musky info on a certain river on another outdoor website.  One guy never shared anything regarding location or tactics. I knew he was catching fish.  I called him out for being selfish and he defended himself by saying others would burn or ruin the spots.

A few weeks later one of the "regulars" asked about SM fishing at a spot I knew well. I told him where to fish and what baits to use and how to use them.

A week later he posted a picture of a picnic table completely covered by BIG dead smallmouths. I was shocked. I never expected him and his friends to kill the fish they caught. Many others on the site jumped all over him. I was sick but kept my mouth shut. I decided that I was not going to share info but I still do. I'm just more careful with who I share it and now I agree with the "regular" who did not want to share info.
