justfishin Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I have tried to use scents. I just never saw where they made a difference. By the way, what the he** is a Blur Gill ??? I mean my spelling is not that great but, some of the post lately have been insane with the spelling. If some of the young guys in here, by the time they are in 10th grade, spell like some I have seen, I am not understanding the education system. Please young guys, at least make a attempt at some of your spelling. When you go to college, the prof's are going to eat you guys for breakfast. Just trying to help. Quote

Mainlybass Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I'm a believer in scents. Just my personal experience, but to me, it makes sense. I think anything that helps the fish locate your bait can't hurt. Without scent, the fish have basically two ways of finding your bait: seeing it or feeling it. If they can smell it too, they may follow their nose to the food source. I use Crossbow's oil based garlic scent and definitely have seen the difference it makes. The first time I used it, my wife and I were fishing & both were using Fat Ika's, one with scent, one without. The bait with the scent got 2 fish in the boat before the unscented bait got a bite. I also use Megastrike on my soft plastic swimbaits when ocean surf fishing and feel I get more fish chasing my lure because they can smell it. MB Quote

If they can smell it too, they may follow their nose to the food source. Really the only way they bass have to find the bait is sight it's only after seeing it that they will inhale it for a taste and if then it dosen't feel right to them then they spit it out. Also another misconception is that a bass can follow a scent trail through the water. alot of people assume that a bass is like a beagle and can track down it's prey simply by smelling. With all the different currents and other natural scents flowing through the water your scent goes in all directions. If you were fishing a cove for a period of a hour or more then it might help. But bass use there sight more than anything and when a bass catches wind of a certain smell it only puts it on alert for possable prey, not make it track it down as so many beleve Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 19, 2007 Super User Posted August 19, 2007 Interesting; how do bass find my worm at night when they can't see it? Quote
Super User T-rig Posted August 19, 2007 Super User Posted August 19, 2007 Interesting; how do bass find my worm at night when they can't see it? Bass have night vision! ;D They find your worm because they do see it. They also use their lateral lines. Scent or no scent, bass will eat a worm at night. Quote
CrazedL.IFisherman Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 My favorite by far is mega strike Quote
Joey_Doe Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 What about the idea of using scent for a more convincing bite, after they go for it, just like a burger, wouldnt they smell the scent more intensely when the worm is close to their mouth, maybe they would hold on longer once they decided to hit it...
