I broke my Mojo Yak last week and I'm probably going to file a warranty on it since it wasn't an obvious 'my fault' kind of thing. Plus the rod is less than 90 days old. I'd just tied on a jerkbait, let it off in the water, and pulled in the slack to cast. As the jerk of the cast started to unload the rod and send the lure flying, the tip snapped and cut my line sending my bait and the rod tip into about 25' of water. I can't understand why this happened, the lure was well under the rod's load rating, the line was not wrapped around the eyes, and I was not trying to bomb the cast 50 yards or something insane like that. No part of this makes sense to me. I'm honestly still very upset about it, that was my favorite rod for all things under 1/2oz and I am absolutely missing it.

On the St Croix website, the warranty form makes it clear I will have to pay to ship the rod back. I don't have a box for this, if anyone can give me some advice or some thoughts on this whole process I would appreciate the input very much. Thanks!

Fill out the form and wait for a response. I had the same rod break twice this year, it was replaced both times without needing to return the broken one. just take the pics that they ask for.

be patient, it took me about a month.

If it matters, I broke a premier twice, as opposed to your mojo.

While each rod warranty situation is different, the few times I've had dealings with St Croix, the interactions have always been friendly, professional and super easy.    They have met or exceeded my 'customer satisfaction' level every time.

You will not need to ship the damage rod intacted; meaning whole & long.

Call them and will probably tell you to cut it up but to leave the serial number legible.

Weird and always a bummer taking a hack saw to a previously favorite rod.

Call them

I was never offered this option.

I like it better

I’ve dealt with them twice. One time it was a premier that was beyond the 5 year warranty, so they allowed me to simply pay the shipment of it plus the difference in price to a brand new one ($55) for a replacement. So really I got to replace a 10 year old rod with a brand new one for about 75 bucks.

I also replaced a lifetime warrantied avid rod once. They don’t make them anymore now, but the retailer allowed me to exchange it right off the shelf where I had bought it.

This is part of the reason I prefer to buy rods in person at a store. Quite often if they break under warranty, you can exchange it without dealing with shipping or waiting for delays.

Although I’m going back more years than is probably relative here. I purchased a 2 piece premiere many years ago on clearance at DSG, I broke the tip closing it in my car door a handful of years ago. When I asked a local shop about replacing the tip they suggested calling and asking St Croix if there was another solution. When I called and explained the situation they asked for the information on the blank and only charged me shipping costs for the new top half even though I explained everything to them including not filling out the original warranty card upon initial purchase.

I broke a St Croix a few years ago (2018). Like you, it was the first outing with the rod, broken tip. I did have to send my broken rod back, but I'm pretty sure that they paid the shipping both ways. I could be wrong. It wasn't a bad customer service experience.

If you live near a BPS, they'll usually give you one of the cardboard rod tubes that their rods are shipped in if you ask. If not, maybe your local mom and pop tackle shop might have some? I got mine at BPS.

You don’t have to ship the broken rod back. All they ask for is a picture of the break, model number and serial number.

I had broken a legend tournament musky rod 3 years in a row like clock work. All on casts. I did ship mine back they sent me new ones no questions really asked. Although one time it did take me 3-4 months to get back. I called them and they had seem to lost my claim. I stopped using their musky rods but use their premier spinning rods for bass yet.

I had for the tip top of my Legend and once I email them they sent a tip top with their special glue(need to heat the power to melt), and also I called and they really helped me over the phone. Thats only time I use their warranty.

Broke a Victory Spinning rod earlier this year filled out warranty form and submitted pictures as requested.  I then got a email in 2 days to call them and a reference number to provide.  Called and requested to upgrade paid the difference from Victory to Legend Elite and they shipped it when the model was available.  Didn't have to ship the broken rod to them and didn't pay shipping for the new rod either.  Was a great experience for me.

I've been using SC rods for over 20 years and have only broken a few but their CS has always been excellent.  I know it's not convenient for most folks but if you can visit their shop and deal with them face to face I think that helps.
