I have fly fished for trout in Montana, but since I began bass fishing passionately have almost exclusively kayak/bank fished.  I have wet waded while kayak fishing, but there is something special about gearing up and being completely waterproof, immersing yourself right in a fishing hole and silently stalking your prey.

I have a feeling this will be competing with my kayak for most enjoyable fishing experience.  Both are important tools to have in your arsenal, and a combination is obviously the best approach.  Wading just allows you to get into tight spots that even your kayak cannot reach.  Something about being waist deep in a river that is rushing beneath you and hooking into an 18” smallmouth is exhilarating. ???

I have always like wade fishing, caught a lot of smallies stealth wading in the river. It was to small for any boats, but had a lot of fish.

My favorite part about wading is you don’t zoom by good spots in the canoe/kayak

Wading is my favorite way to fish in summer and fall. Shorts and Crocs when the water is warm. Chest waders when it gets colder.

Exactly. I can’t count how many times I’ve been blown out of a juicy spot before I could even get a cast off. Anchor wizard helps but there’s something to be said for focusing on one hole, picking it to pieces.

I used to wade a 12 miles section of river with great regularity. I loved it...you could pick apart any spot and take whatever time was needed.  I can't do much wading these days. A car wreck years ago that badly damaged my left foot and knee, then lung cancer surgery a few years ago that took 1/2 of my right lung which really cuts down on my breathing and therefore my stamina, has ruled out anything more than a very short amount of wading, I really miss it.
