DanielG Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 So funny if anyone asks guys about their trucks. It's like women talking about their relationships. 1 Quote

Access cab, so the rods fit inside. my kayak fits in the bed. i wish i had better MPG. BUT i havent had truck payments in almost forever. almost two decades, so there is that. I'm in this same boat. I'd love to have a new truck. Find myself looking at them more and more often, then I see those monthly payments ? I can buy a lot of tanks of gas for what 1 truck payment cost with what they're asking for them right now. 1 Quote
ScottW Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 2016 Nissan Frontier crew cab w/ 4.0 V6. Rods go in the passenger seat and tackle in the bed under the tonneau cover along with my fishing cart. If I take the ‘toon I deflate one log and it goes in the bed at an angle after rolling back the tonneau. 5 Quote

I average about 17 mpg but I live on a mountain and it kills my fuel mileage. I prefer to pull the boat with my 08 Tahoe but it's got a little lift and only gets about 13mpg. My hunting vehicle is a 97 S10 blazer with a set of mudders on it. I get about 15 mpg in it. I usually drive my wife's Honda Accord to work to save money on gas. I carry my rods in my boat or the back of the truck if I'm not using the boat. I have trouble posting pictures on here, they all say they're over the MB limit. @Rockytop when you’re done adding a picture select show size and it will give you options to add the size of the file in the right hand corner. I hope this helps. Quote

immortl Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 I drive a 2009 Dodge RAM 3500, 6.7l Cummins, dual rear wheel, quad cab, long bed pickup. It's primary task is hauling our 40ft fifth wheel (kind of full timers, but currently taking care of family so based around childhood home). Empty/fishing eh, 12-14mpg, hauling the RV 9-10mpg all hand calculated. It has a 4.10 rear and the duallies don't help either. Rods go up in the cab across the back or in passenger seat. This past summer I lost 3 rods out of a canoe in the bed Plan is to haul my forthcoming kayak in the bed. Haven't quite yet figured out if/how I can rig up to carry the kayak when the 5th wheel is attached. I think I can toss it up on a roof rack but may overhang the front by 2ft or so, we'll see. Quote

Kayak trailer No shame in the minivan game? My wife therefore I drives a 2009 Sienna. I inherited a 2005 dodge caravan that has less than miles than the Toyota and my 2009 Ford Focus. It also has way more rust ?. Before the caravan I fit everything up to 7’-3” rods in the Ford with the passenger back seat folded flat. 2 Quote

My family had minivans growing up and I hated those things. Luckily you don't see many on the road anymore. SUVs and crew cab trucks have replaced them. Quote
ScottW Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 We had a Ford Aerostar years ago. Minivan, yes but built on a truck frame. Loved that sucker. Except when it came tuneup time. You had to be a contortionist to get to the back plugs, wires and distributor. 1 1 Quote
Will Ketchum Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 I would recommend at least a vehicle with all wheel drive and ground clearance. You may need it on some fishing adventures. I have a 2019 Subaru Impreza sedan and it does the job at this stage but wish it had the aforementioned. If I had a one piece pole, I could lower the back seat-back to fit it if I had to. 1 Quote

Super User king fisher Posted December 7, 2022 Super User Posted December 7, 2022 I couldn't find a small used pickup I could afford so a I bought a 12 year old Ford Echo sport from a friend of a friends cousin. It was a rattle trap when I bought it 5 years ago, and all I can say now, is it gets down the road most of the time. The rods and tackle, I put in it are worth far more than the car. With the Kayak on top, it definitely looks like a $1000 saddle on a $500 dollar horse. The good thing is I don't ever have to worry about someone breaking in or trying to steel it, because it is a piece of junk, even by Mexican standards. Any would be thief, takes one look and assumes the owner is completely broke. It gets my Kayak, gear and me to the lake, and that is all that matters. It would be nice to have a pickup, my back would appreciate not having to lift the kayak on top, but for the next couple years I will have to consider lifting the Kayak good exercise. 2 Quote
Super User ATA Posted December 7, 2022 Super User Posted December 7, 2022 I have 2020 Ram 1500 echodiesel, Ive had the engine changed from Italian engine to German engine. This truck have 680plus miles fully loaded, If not loaded 800 miles easy. I am thanking lord every minute for it 3 Quote
Motoboss Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 2019 F150 Supercab 4x4 bought new before the “gouging“ hit the fan. 3.3L six with 6 speed tranny @ 21-26 mph. All the rods in a rod bag go in the bed and tackle box/gear in the Decked drawers. 3 Quote
Goldstar225 Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 2014 F-150 Supercrew 4X4 with max tow package. 18-20 MPG empty, 14-15 MPG towing my tracker or utility trailer. Bought it to tow my 35 foot travel trailer. The TT is gone now and don't need the towing capacity anymore but I see no sense in trading the truck off. It's been paid off for five years and I expect to get at least another 8-10 years of use out of it. 2 Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted December 8, 2022 Super User Posted December 8, 2022 grrr.. my 2006 Tacoma is developing what i believe is noise from a bad wheel bearing. not bad for 210,000 miles on the odo. i have an appointment at a mechanic this monday. i did this job once on a chevy and it was unpleasant at best. i am older, wiser and have more money now. and my floor jack broke...hahah.
