My bps cranking stick broke recently. This was the older old which was labeled as a 7 mh/fast, but it had tons to bend. It was essentially a medium heavy/moderate action rod. I loved it for spinnerbaits/chatterbaits/buzzbaits square bills and even some jerkbaits. I am wanting to find a suitable replacement, but finding a rod under 7’ that meets this criteria isn’t exactly easy in a less than flooded market for this peculiar request. I fish from a kayak and like 6’ 10” rods. They Just seem to be my sweet spot for length. I’m 5 8 and can’t stand in my yak. The kvd medium heavy moderate rods that a-jay raves about are on sale for under 70 bucks, but at 7 4 I’m a little weary about it. I have a 7 4 heavy and 7 w medium/moderate I’ll use out of my kayak, but rethreading line is a mess on them if I get caught up/break off. I basically end up with the rod in the water and have to pull it back out (I’ve yet to find a better alternative on how to do this, but this is for another thread). If no better options come about I’ll gladly pick up one of those kvd rods, but I wanted to ask around around a 6 8-6 10 cranking stick prior to buying. Cheers!

Look at the Dobyns Sierra line of rods. They have 3 rods that are 6'8". I am thinking that the 683 model would be great for cranks. It is listed as a med/heavy but it is more like a med. They also have one model that is lighter that would also work.

Daiwa Rebellion 6'10" MH-R. Probably more of a moderate fast, but love this rod. Loads up deep into the blank when a fish is on the line. 10lb yo Zuri hybrid, primarily spinner baits, senkos, and jigs.

Falcon will have at least a few choices throughout there different lines.

Ordinarily I would agree with you but I don’t think falcon has what he wants based on his description.  They have the bucoo treble hooker which is a 6’6” moderate, but is it also medium power and basically a short Mansfield. It’s a pretty light rod and not what I’d be throwing single hook baits with as my primary choice. There is the expert jerkbait which is a 6’8” moderate, but also medium power and also a quite light rod.

based on what he says he’s doing, the expert finesse jig is what I would use. It’s 6’10” and medium to medium heavy in power (falcon can run light in power relative to other brands depending on the rod).  It is a fast action but because it is more medium power it bends deeper than you’d expect when casting.  It’s a great rod for sure and one of my favorites for a lot of things. My primary uses are for 1/2 oz walking baits, 3/8 or smaller spinnerbaits/chatterbaits, and any time I want to throw lightweight stuff on a baitcaster like a weightless fluke, weightless plastics, or a small paddletail swimbait.  It works well for a small squarebill or other 5/16 size crankbait.

based on the description of the BPS stick, the 7’ trapcaster is the right rod. Does all of the things pretty well with the right action and power. It’s just 7’ and not under that.

I have the 6’ 10” Head Turner. Rated as a heavy but top end of listed lure rating is 3/4 ounce, which is closer to a MH. Nice tip, soft enough for target casting and just enough give for spinnerbaits, chatter baits etc. Poster above may have it nailed, though: based on OP, he may be happier with one power lighter than the Head Turner, and so the Expert Finesse Jig Rod might well be the ticket. (It’s the next Falcon I get for throwing lighter stuff.)

I appreciate everyone's responses on this! This is why is love this site. There is so much useful information! Does anyone have experience with the ARK lancer pro rods? They have a 6' 10" medium moderate/fast action rod that looks promising. I am just not sure if Lancer pro runs stiffer to flex or not? If its a medium that is a "medium heavy" I'd be game for something like that.

That Diawa Rebellion rod also looks amazing! $200 is probably a steal for such a nice rod.

I liked it so much, I bought the medium light spinning rod as well. Those two rods are so versatile. The rods are impeccable, light weight, and sensitive. While Eva wasn't my first choice, it is very comfortable and the Eva is high quality, it's grown on me and I love these rods. I have the two piece models to add to their versality.
