we moved to a new city 7 years ago.  We kept our dentist.  He is that good. Wife and I put our appointments back to back so we can come in together.  We get a good lunch afterwards.   My bosses know I need the day off. Haha.  It’s a 1.5 hour drive each way.  Totally worth it.

she went first today, so I have the time to question my past 6-months of home oral care.  I’m a grown man and the dentist still causes some anxiety.   I waited in our EV and watched Netflix, but I came in and now I’m in the waiting room.  Palms sweaty.  :)

my dentist is a hardcore basserman, do we will at least share photos.

gah. Dentist. (Shiver)

I've used the same dental office since I was a kid.  Even when I went off to college about 90 miles away, I kept going to the same practice.  The dentist I saw as a kid isn't even there anymore because she retired.

I am very picky about the hygenist I use though.  Has to be the same one every time.  I go 3 times a year because my insurance will pay for it.  I've never had a male dentist or hygenist and the idea of one would bother me to be honest.  Won't let a male barber cut my hair either.  Just rubs me the wrong way if you know what I mean.

When I was a kid, there was no Fluoride in the water and nearly everyone had dentures by the time they reached their 60s. The dentist I went to did not use Novocaine when filling my cavities and it was pure torture. This made me intensely afraid of the dentist and I avoided going for nearly twenty years.  When I got a tooth ache, I had them pull the bad tooth.  This caused me all kinds of problems later in life.  Today's dentists are nothing like in those days.  Don't mess around with your teeth.  You will be around a lot longer than you think and you are going to need them.   If you are afraid of pain, go to a dentist that uses Nitrous Oxide.  They can cut off your arm with a nail file and you won't care.  ?

I have a great dentist.  Because of a genetic disease, I now have a great oral surgeon. ? I have had 4 major oral surgeries in the last year.  When the surgeon and I discussed the procedures in the beginning I asked him if he was going to  anesthetize me for the procedures, his reply was no.  He initially thought I was going to need a plastic surgeon to rebuild my sinus cavities but thankfully we caught it early enough.  Was it torture?  No.  Would I ever want to go through it again? Absolutely not.  Glad it’s over.

I stopped going to the dentist in my late teens and didn't go for almost 20 years because I hated it that much. Started going again 3 years ago and to say that first trip back was nerve racking is an understatement. I had to get a full mouth debridement that first trip back...although it was not fun it could have been much worse. I've had 3 or 4 fillings the last few years but no issues with any. It gets easier and easier every time I go now that I'm getting more comfortable. That said do I like goung? Absolutely not

I don't mind the dentist, the hygienist is a different story.

When I was busy, busy with work I seldom went but of course brushed and flossed religiously. I developed an abscess and found a dental clinic and had it taken care of. Now I go for a cleaning twice a year. They pulled a broken tooth a few months ago. Some dental places send you to a dental surgeon if you need something special done, but they do it all under one roof.

I don’t mind it at all, in fact, I pretty much fall asleep in the chair when I’m getting a cleaning. The hygienist is a very nice girl, but I almost wish she wouldn’t talk to me at all so I could just take a nap and let them do their thing, and wake me when it’s time to leave?
