If a two loss team got in over a one loss team the committee would lose any and all credibility.

After losses, USC and TCU have to drop out of the top 4. That leave 2 holes. Just the way it is.

The best one loss team is Ohio St.  The second best one loss team is TCU.   They will probably take Alabama over TCU which is wrong.  That would mean the best 4 teams according to the computers would be in the playoffs.  I’m assuming Georgia and Michigan win.

It's the timing of the loss.

If you lose late in the year the likelihood of being leapfroged by a lesser team is more prominent.

Then there's the Saben factor because of his legacy.

The talking heads have TCU in the top 4 even with the one loss. They lost in overtime in a very close game.

I hate Alabama as much as anybody but I think they would beat OSU or TCU. I think TCU is the more deserving of a spot though.

Both TCU & OSU have open spots. It’s not one or the other.

Hey guys, under the current system, the Tulane Green Wave will be playing Bamasux in the Cotton Bowl. 

 

Had the system not included the highest ranked second division team, the Green Wennies would have probably played in the Independence Bowl.

 

Tulane has an excellent quarterback and this could be an interesting game.

 

Bamasux's record agaist the New Orleans school is expected to improve to 27-11-3 against the Greenies when the game ends. However, this record between the two teams was created before Tulane left the SEC in 1965 so it means nothing.

I find it funny folks think it should be expanded.....there is one National Championship level team every year, this year it's UGA that will run away with it.       

 

If you can't find 3 other teams that are as competitive as the UGA or Bama every year, you certainly shouldn't expand it.   This year it's really bad in regard to the 1 seed vs all the others. 

 

Outside of the fans of the other three, everybody in America knows UGA will run away with it.  Silly worrying over who will be first loser.

No doubt, Alabama today would waste those two, but who really cares as long as they all will be crushed by UGA.

I don't think expanding it from 4 all the way to 12 is the greatest idea to be honest.  What they should do it move to 8 teams.  Why are we all of the sudden going to 12 and having 4 teams with a bye?  8 teams without a bye in bracket format (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc) would be the next logical step.

Since the playoffs have started, I can't remember a year when I thought more than 2 had a realistic shot at it.    I think expanding it will just water it down and allow more revenue to stream in to rejuvenate the Bowl system.    It will be about revenue, not an enhanced product.

Your post sounds like a Paul Finebaum call. Georgia has a great team, no doubt, but they didn't exactly look great against Kentucky or Missouri.

They've already done that with about 40 useless bowl games.  Finishing 6-6 is a terrible criteria for bowl qualification.  It has nothing to do with earning a "playoff spot" anymore with most of these bowls and everything to do with marketing/revenue.
