Casting lures 1/8 oz is only 1 factor. The lure aerodynamics affects to how well it can be cast, the line type and diameter and the rods action is even more important.

Saying the difference between 1/8 and 3/16 oz is only 1/16 oz is correct but it’s also 50% weight difference.

Looking at JDM portals both 2021 Daiwa zillion and  Steez reels are offered under $250! Amazing prices.

If I was still buying reels that is a no brainer.

If you know how to use your thumb the reel doesn't matter, a rod with a soft tip helps but can be done with a MH.

'Knowing' and 'doing' aren't the same thing.  I am right handed.  Took me a long time to get any kind of finesse with my right thumb.  It was like a light switch.  'On' or 'Off'.  I was much better with my left thumb right from the start.  Learned that right from the beginning when I sat in front of the TV thumbing the spool as the lure dropped to the floor.  Still nowhere near as good as I'd like to be.  Probably still have a lighter touch with my left thumb.

Lew's custom Lite for me. I cast neds with it with no problem. It's actually my favorite reel. If I could have only one it would be that.

Consider the 70 mgl or bfs curados.

Do you know if there are any mods I can do to my curado k to make it more like curado 70? I really don’t know much about it

I'm not aware of any spools for the 200k.  Maybe a scorpion 150 mgl spool but that would be expensive enough to warrant just getting another reel instead.

Almost forgot that I had a slx mgl, been a rough season for me barely fishing and it happened to not make the cut to stay in the car all season hoping to get a chance to get wet. Casts 5 inch super flukes where I tell it to, but I can't really remember trying to go for distance how it performed.

I wish I could drop 250 on a reel, but is there really a 100-150 dollar difference?

For distance try backing off on the spool tension and relying on the brakes.  Also consider droppign down to a 10 lb fouro or 20-30lb braid.  Get that spool spinning faster and pass a line through it that can get out of its own way and down the guides.
