Carolann bought me a Shimano Chronarch when they first came out. Don't like that reel because I was used to Calcuttas. Took the reel back & exchanged it for a Calcutta 50A.

We came to an agreement,  I don't buy her jewelry & she doesn't buy me fishing tackle.

I buy what I want, she buys what she wants.

Exactly

I'm taking my grandson to Disney and grandma gets to tag along.

You should get her an autographed pic of Leslie west.

Or Leslie Nielsen.

Just bought my wife her “big Christmas gift” yesterday. She needed a new laptop for her job and her side job, so we bought a new MacBook Air. She’ll still get some small stuff at Christmas, but that took a pretty good bite out of the holiday budget ?

Macs are crazy expensive but worth it in the long run. I used to be a Linux guy. Wouldn’t have anything else. Slowly went to the dark side and went all in on Apple. Worked out well in my last career in web hosting when I worked from home.

I'm buying my wife a new Expresso coffee machine. She's mentioned it a couple of times. When were out somewhere that has them, I say, " why don't you buy one, go ahead, let's get one". She always says " no, I don't really need one". So, I'm buying her one for Christmas. Even after forty one years of marriage, women are still sometimes hard to figure out.

No! 26 years and I thought I’d be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

My best chance is when she gives clues and hints or what she wants but this is NO guarantee. For example she might hint at a style of shoe or whatever. I get said gift, and while in the ball park, it’s no good because some detail is not liked.

Gift cards are my best bet because I hate returning things especially when it was something she didn’t really like. And then she gets to buy exactly what she wants.

Let me say this is not a cop out. No way. It’s a win-win.  If I asked her to buy me fishing gear, let’s just say the tables have been turned.

I learned a long time ago NOT to buy clothing for my wife.
I bought her a new kitchen this year and it's almost completed.

I’m making my wife a custom leather purse. The stamping is done and I have it dyed with all the straps and buckles riveted on, but I’m having a tiny bit of trouble with the double stitch . Aggravating . As far as my gift , I’ve been dropping hints about a Dobyns Sierra 702SF , trying not to make it too obvious. Searching YouTube for reviews on it while she thinks I can’t see her out of the corner of my eye . My son asked me today all innocently what I want for Christmas, and I know she put him up to it. I had to play it cool, so I just casually mentioned a fishing rod would be nice . If I just flat out ask for a specific rod they’ll know the jig is up. Christmas is so much fun.

This is part of why I am a scrooge around the holidays.  Finding appropriate gifts for people, buying them, and wrapping them is a royal pain in my arse.

That being said, I usually just tell my wife "when you see or find something you want, buy it" and then I'll put it in a Christmas bag and place it under the tree.  She knows that gifts are not my thing either and luckily she is quite understanding of it.

She found a new hobby so the actual gift part is pretty easy this year.

But I think I've figured out if I write a page-long card to her she'll keep it forever, and probably cry like I would if I got a gift card to a JDM site.
