GetFishorDieTryin Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 I pretty much go to a double tail grub or a dead action bait, like a fat baby craw or BB cricket. What do you guys like to use? Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted November 28, 2022 Super User Posted November 28, 2022 Double tail grub, or a beaver style bait are tough to beat IMO. The grubs thin appendages have a subtle waver while at rest, and provide a little action when moved, The beaver's wide body and appendages give it a natural looking glide. Gotta let the fish tell ya what they want on any given day. 4 Quote
softwateronly Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 I was playing around with a jackhammer/ kamikaze swimon and noticed the swimon floats a bit. I’m gonna try it as cold water jig trailer, specifically dht punisher. Seems like it could be a nice little feeding panfish profile that moves when still. scott Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 29, 2022 Super User Posted November 29, 2022 Either a Zoom Big Salty Chunk, or a Zoom Super Chunk. I will try a creature or a craw every once in a while, but most of the time it's one of the chunks. 2 Quote

Big Swimbait Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Gene Larue 4 inch Salt Craw. It's been catching fish in Texas for 25+ years. I wish they would bring back the 6 inch - it was a great T-rig bait. 1 Quote

papajoe222 Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Up here, where there's COLD water, a Zoom Super Chunk with a little Spike-It gets the call for me. I loved pork and still do, but I hate the hassle of taking it off and having to rinse the jig. 1 Quote
KP Duty Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 I generally choose a low/no action trailer. I used uncle josh or salt craws back in the day, but these days its a flappin' hog or brush hog with the swim tails trimmed. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 4, 2022 Super User Posted December 4, 2022 Super chunk is the best for me for cold water. Allen Quote

I used uncle josh or salt craws back in the day, but these days its a flappin' hog or brush hog with the swim tails trimmed. Ive never really found subtle curly or ribbon tails to be detrimental in cold water. Ive had my best results with double tail grubs and very good success with tiny brush hogs on micro jigs. The brush hog jrs dont have the bulk I want and the brush hogs are just too big. Super hogs look like they have the right bulk and profile to be effective. Although Ive had success in the past with them, aggressive kicking trailers like rage and paca chunks are the ones I stay away from these days. I have used salty chunks cut down, often when pitching wood on the sunny bank in late dec-feb, but haven't extensively used them on football jigs. 1 Quote
JohnFromLisbon Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 Yamamoto Double Tail Grub, 5 and 4" for the standard finesse football jigs, the regular size Flappin' Hog, too, and Finesse TRD and TRD Crawz for the little Keitech football jigs. And the regular size Flappin' Hog, too. Last time I went out I threw the Keitech with a tiny Paca Chunk and the pincers would only move if you swam it fast, so those are out till spring. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 6, 2022 Super User Posted December 6, 2022 I love pork but its no longer an option . The #11 pork frog is the most famous but I also liked the eel and spring lizard . As far as plastics are concerned, my most successful are Mister Twister twin tail grubs and Larew Salt Craws . Quote

I hear they’re terrible, though… Like most of them aren’t even usable… Academy sports has them on clearance already ??♂️ I was going to give them a try, but the reviews I read online allowed me to kick that bait monkey off my shoulder 2 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 7, 2022 Super User Posted December 7, 2022 I think the Uncle Josh #11 is the same bait we had decades ago. Give them a try! https://www.acmetackle.com/collections/uncle-josh-1 Quote

You can get pork, but the prices are steep. Papaw E has had pork out long before Uncle Josh got back on the market. I haven't tried them because he doesnt offer strips or the split tail sea rind shapes. Supposedly he puts out a good product and he used to do custom colors and size frogs, (within reason) not sure if that is the case anymore. 1 Quote
