Black Friday is fun, but I think JDM gear has it beat this year!

Excellent pic Dave!  I know this feeling.  I received my first Zillion several days ago from JLS (along with a complimentary Megabass jerkbait) and am supposed to receive another from Digitaka tomorrow. Nice routing with the non-stop flight from Japan to Memphis and on to Richmond, VA.

The world has shrunk.

Really?  Every year, the major tackle manufacturers come up with lighter, faster, stronger, shinier, and generally better gear and you just ignore those? You must have wrestled the bait monkey to the ground, bound and gagged it, and tossed it in your trunk. ?

I bought my first JDM Zillion probably 5 years ago (a 9.1 with the green accents). It's a very exciting day when those packages show up at the house.

Are you suggesting that the Trunk Monkey could make short work of the Bait Monkey?

Trunk Monkey vs Bait Monkey in the steel cage octagon.

Let's make it a PPV!

Got mine from JLS as well and it came with a free Megabass 110 but a variety that is extremely shallow running with a pretty fast rise. Seems tailor-made for the shallow ponds I often fish. Can’t wait to try both out.

I always like ordering from JLS (waiting for an order now). The free gift makes paying for shipping a little easier.

Enjoy the reel. It's a great one (maybe the greatest).

I have full line up of conquest spinning and casting rods with all Antares DC models and metanuioms and few aldebarans and curado DC and couple of Abu toros with dobyns and Abu rods plus best and highest quality travel rods awith few Stella fk and excense reels, so yes I have everything that they are top of the line of the brands available and my favorite(I am not into daiwas and lews).

What kind of line do you use on it? Is reel particularly suited to any one? I’ve got braid and fluoro options, can’t decide what to start out with.

I haven't tried braid on it. Not my favorite for jigs and soft plastic. I have been using Sunline BMS Sniper. I picked it for a few other reels since I bought the first spool and love it so far but to be honest, I bought it for the Zillion because it looked cool and I was curious.  I am believer in it now. I wouldn't buy it at the US price but the JDM price made it worthwhile.

Another to try is Sunline Sniper Invisible.  I have it on few set ups and like it just as well as the BMS version.

Congrats!  I just started looking for one in the 8.x ratio and it looks like I’m late to the party. Haven’t found one yet.

I ran 14lb Sufix DNA copoly on mine right in the beginning, then switched over to 15lb Tastu, and both have been great. Personally I generally prefer using my T-wing reels with plastic lines for casting baits. They have memory no matter what type they are and flow through the T-wing nicely whereas I can feel them working through typical line guide apertures. This isn't a big thing, but it's a me-thing.

I'm sure it'll be fine with whichever line you choose.

Another thing is that the spool bearings come over greased from the factory, so it'll cast a bit differently especially in cold weather unless you clean and re-grease them, or simply add oil to them in place which will cut the grease. If you do nothing the grease will break down after a while, but adding oil is easy and will help the reel to open up more quickly. Rotation during casting will help to express the broken down grease.

Yes...but bass fishermen are nostalgic, and someone posting a 15yr old team daiwa Zillion would probably get as many or more 'likes' than someone posting a new model.

What's bms?

Bait Marking System.  The line is marked every few feet in a different color (pink, yellow,  orange and grey). Depending on the light conditions, supposedly you will see a different color visibly above water but the line disappears once it is below.

This not the best picture but it gets the idea across. The yellow is visible in this light.

Ah I understand, I never knew it was called that! Got some for slow fall jigging in SW, now I know what it's called :)

Be careful! They are addictive...in the last year I've ended up with three of them and an Alphas.  Seriously, awesome for the money especially with the current exchange rate.
