Kastmaster mods

I began using these nice lures and would like to make a few modifications. Often the manufacturers have done all the work and it is not necessary to modify their products. I wish they had only one good hook and that the hook was weedless. What I'm hoping for is the ability to fish these in very weedy areas of my favorite Pocono Lakes.

Have any of you done this to your favorite Kastamaster or spoon lure? Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Add a split ring, then add an offset soft plastic hook. Rig a plastic bait to make it weedless. A 4" section of plastic worm can be good. A plastic bait that's too big may hinder the action of some spoons.

I was thinking lite wire would be best

How would this help with with weedless use of the spoon. Perhaps I'm not seeing something.

Yes, but in my experience the ewg and plastic (3 inch grub) was just too big of a profile and just turned it into a wannabe chatterbait without a skirt. Johnson weedless spoon is what I use.

  • Apply a light coat of clear spray adhesive (art supply) then sprinkle a little silve glitter on one side and gold glitter on the other side.
  • Add an Owner Hyper Wire split ring (#3) and sub out the treble hook for a single 1/0 ~ 3/0 trailer hook .
