ive been using gamakatsu  octopus #2 for my weightless senkos. im primarily a worm guy 70% of season.

but im looking at upgrading  to one brand of hook for simplicity and bulk purchasing .

pros and cons of vmc vs gama.

I like the Berkley Fusion Finesse Wide Gap #2 or the VMC Wacky #2.. most of my hooksets with these are right in the top of the mouth… The Berkley hooks are sticky sharp..

Some like the VMC Neko for wacky but I have resulted in too many gut hooked fish..

Gammy and Owner are probably the best hooks out there...'upgrading' from Gamakatsu makes me scratch my head in confusion.

Try the VMC Neko hook.  I use size number 2 (not 2/0) for wacky rigging.  The longer shank helps with getting a hook set in the roof of the mouth versus the side.

This is coming from a guy who used to primarily use a VMC wacky hook, which is specifically "designed" for wacky rigging.  The Neko hook is just better for it.

@MN Fisheri love them but i here tons of good things about vmc neko & Gamakatsu Wide Gap Finesse and im not sure the octopus are the right hook but there deadly sharp and ive had great success with them. so upgrading is essentially staying with gama or moving to vmc neko.

Ya - but he was talking Gammy to VMC...

Don't get me wrong...VMC is a good hook, but it's my #3.

As @MN Fisher said… hard to upgrade from Gamakatsu hooks… with anything. They might be my favorite hooks on the market. I do like mustad and owner very much as well.

I’ve used the VMC Neko. It’s a good hook. Not too much to complain about. If you like the shape, thickness, and size of the VMC Neko more, then go with it. But I would not pick it over a Gammy hook over some perceived brand superiority. I can see an argument for bulk purchasing of the VMC as you mention. If you pick the VMC for that purpose, okay, but I would not expect to be wow’d at its performance over the Gamakatsu

For me there is no one brand that covers my most used presentations.
I use Trokar, Owner or Gammy depending on what I’m throwing where.

Owner and Gamakatsu have been my favorite.  VMC and Trokar might be tied for third but Decoy and Ryugi are giving all them a run for their money. If I make an order from Japan, they are about half the cost. It's nice to have choices ?.

I use Gamakatsu hooks exclusively. The Wide Gap Finesse hooks cover pretty much all my finesse bases, from wacky rigs to drop shots to nose hooked weightless flukes. It’s the perfect finesse hook in my opinion.

I think most of the premium hook brands are all about the same.  Now, there are specific hooks within each brand that may be better than the competition.  But I'm not convinced that one brand is unequivocally better than any other across the entire line.  I believe it's largely going to be personal preference as to what you like best.

Same for me, I use Gamakatsu and Owner for pretty much everything. I did use Trokar for a while but ultimately didn't like them as much as the old standbys.

I have different favorite brands based on specific use.

Swimbait jig head  Trokar Boxer the best Ive used.

Fat Ikas Gama Deep throat

Wacky senko get Eagle Claw weedless red

Ned rigs Trokar tungsten finesse.

Honorable mention goes to VMC Fast Grip ewg red for Ikas  they seem to last longer slide up hook not tear off rip as easily.

Thanks.

My Ewg hook is Gamakatsu. My Neko/wacky hook is VMC. My twisted lock hook is Mustad. My dropshot hook is roboworm rebarb hook. All thing considered, size, hook up ratio, price and convenience of getting them.

I’ve switched to pretty much all Owner for hooks. The offset wide gap ewgs have a good hookup ratio. The j ligjts are great for light line. Pretty much all I need for TRigs

Mosquito hooks work really well for wacky rigs and they are available in bulk packs.  They are kind of like Owners Octopus hooks.  Don't overlook the other Japanese brands.  Decoy, Hayabusa and Ichikawa all make great hooks.

I've tried a lot of hooks for weightless (wacky), senkos, I settled on the ones I use now that are made by Eagle Claw. Best wacky rig hooks I've used and it's not even close.

Since I'm sure nobody would believe Eagle Claw can make a top shelf hook, they do make the same hook in the Trokar lineup.
