That's me too.  I need to feel the rod and reel on my bare hands.

Kinda the same way when I hunt too.  I much prefer the feel of the gun on my hands.  But there are certain times of the year (December) when I hunt where I have to wear gloves when I'm hunting.  I've literally never been fishing where it felt like I had to wear gloves to fish.  I will put a pair on in the early spring or fall when I'm going from point A to point B though.

P.S (i would highly discourage wearing latex gloves under neath Commonly and for long periods of time, this is how people develop latex allergies.

I didn't know that about the allergies.  Is it the same for nitrile gloves?

Not that I know of - one job I worked, it was clean-room assembly. We had to wear nitrile gloves when 'on the floor'...so 6+ hours a day. I never had an issue even though just wearing latex gloves for an hour makes me break out in hives.

I forgot the brand but they’re are cut off type of glove and mitt at the same time. In addition the mitt part can fold back and expose the cutoff glove. Even with the mitt over the cuttoff, you can still reel. I will expose my thumb with casting gear. Bird’s nest suck undoing and suck even more when it’s freezing so I take every precaution to minimize that occurrence.

These are great but from my experience, when you start fishing in the teens and below, it really doesn’t matter what glove you have. Without some type of warmer, your hands will get cold, feel frozen and stiff. Fish tough or stay home. ‘Nuff said.

Glomits seem like a great idea, but they have 1 major drawback.   When the miten is folded onto the back of the glove it makes it nearly impossible to retrieve anything from a pocket.  You have to take the glove completely off.

I will admit that I do not wear gloves while fishing, ever.  But I could never quite understand the point of the "fingerless gloves" concept.  My fingers are the part that gets cold the easiest, not the actual hands.

I didn't either until I had gotten a pair as a gift.  You can keep your hands warm and still feel and manipulate line.  Ive been wearing them ever since.

For me, that's not a demerit.   That's a disqualifier.  I just put hand warmers in my pockets, because I've never found gloves that I felt I could fish with.  I'm ok with this method into the low 30s.  Any colder, and iced line is a bigger problem for me than cold hands.

I can feel bites, thumb a cast, and be waterproof with these. They dry out easily. Durability and cost are the main negatives, but they’ve been the best for me so far.

You might oughta try it brother. I love fishing this time of year. I'm jacked up and focused all day long because every swing could be a new PB, whatever the species, bass, muskie, eyes... The biggins come shallow before ice over. Especially on calm, sunny days.

Last week the surface temp was still 49-50. Big cold front is just moving out. I expect surface temps in the low 40's. We have skim ice in the shallows. When I hit the water Wednsday, it'll be the third day of sunshine with highs back in the 40's. I have HIGH hopes!!! I'll be after 'em daylight till dark. A-Rig and a Flippin Stick all day long.

I hear ya. I'm bowhunting after work tomorrow, then fishing Wednsday. Weather will determine what I do Friday morning. Good luck hunting.

You'd do a deeper dive into google but at first glance they are artificial so no latex. Pretty sure this is what most industries have moved to due latex allergies

I am not sure, I think latex free is safe, I also know this happens with certain cosmetics that have latex.

If y'all have some gloves you like for fishing in the cold, share 'em with us here.

It's mid 30's and raining today, my least favorite weather.  These gloves are the real deal!  Thanks @T-Billy for a great rec.  These are also gonna make work a little more comfortable this winter.

Yeah buddy. Got mine yesterday. I would recommend going one size bigger than you usually wear with the full dipped though. The full dip makes them fit a bit tighter than the palm dipped version.

We cold weather fish in Minnesota much of the year - spring/fall.  I use these any time its in the 30's-40's air temps.  Waterproof, with a little bit of Thinsulate.  Can do most anything in them - cast, thumb the spool, lip fish, even type a little on your iPhone. Only thing I can't do is tie a knot, so I take them off for that. I HATE the cold and these have extended my season for 3 years now, still in good shape ~
